Me: Is it beneficial to transcend the mind which makes qualitative distinctions between matter in spirit? Is it practical? Possible?

Nick: I'd never think to call you a Modernist, but if you're saying that...

Me: Is it beneficial for a brain to possess the faculty to create judgemental labels? How is this faculty related to the concept of "complex thought," if at all?

I don't know you, but none of those statements would lead me to conclude you were a modernist. Those are pretty common concepts for anyone post-enlightenment, and not so uncommon before that.
