Not sure how many of you used to buy both those magazines in the 90s but there are a trillion bands that would regularly end up on their free giveaway cds.I was listening to a few of them yesterday and here are some names of bands that have appeared on those cds but have disbanded:
Chicks Snapper Ooberman Witness Ten Benson Hefner Rinocerouse Regular Fries |

Carrie is the only band I can think of of that ilk. Oh, and Nought. Nought are/ were fucking incredible. I'll up that as well if I can find it.

some of those cassettes were great but had way too many senser tracks on em! other shit hot bands were polygon window (yeah i know its afx), that dog (long missed), these tapes first introduced me to polvo and trumans and gbv as well. they also introduced me to menswear, garbadge (most apt named band ever), mansun and chumbafduckingwumbabumba so they sucked as well............
btw, there is a c86 cd compilation coming out next month.... |

I had a couple of tapes but I can't remember what's on them apart from stuff like Flaming Lips and Porno for Pyros.
I have a cd of NMEs singles of the week for 1996. Actually some good stuff on there. Bis, Kenickie....The, errr, Smoking Popes. |

Oh dear,The Smoking Popes.Witness,Ooberman and Regular Fries were indeed atrocious. The Chicks' song that was on 'The Maker's Dozen' cd (Daria) is a cool tune though.Royal Trux produced their second album, according to an issue of The Wire.Another few:
Younger Younger 28s(shite) The Crocketts(terrible) Scott 4(love them!) One Lady Owner(shite) Seafood(so so) |
