There's been rumors about it's release date for over 5 years now, but according to wikipedia it's going to be released this upcoming January, and "eminem" promised it would be released. It's going to be his last album, and then he plans to continue just as a producer. Damn I can't wait for this...

Not sure if its a good thing or not for rap fans, when good rappers put out less then 10 albums and then quit, or least proclaim quitting. And on the oppisite side of the spectrum rock bands never quit. Its much different when Dre or Eminen, or Jay-Z say they're quitting, they are solo artists, its not like they are breaking up a band and starting a new band. Every one who breaks up in a rock band either starts a new band or goes solo. I never hear Paul Mcartney say he's quitting as a recording artist, or a Micheal Jackson, or hell even Rolling Stones, rock people do it till death, for better or worse.

yeah, he always changes his mind. I think this happened because of how much his 2nd album failed. It wasn't gangsta rap or G-funk, and not too many people even bought it. When Chronic2k1 came out, he reviatalized the gangsta part of his music, but seemed to drop the George Clintonish funk elements in his music, which is what I was pissed off about.

As for Detox, in 2004 he was planning to cancel the album, and he sold the beats to The Game. There's new beats now, and at the end of a few The Game and Eminem songs they talk about making detox work, and this was in 2006.

Sweet that he's doing a lot of stuff with Rakim. I just really hate it that every site says a different release date. The latest release dates are November 2006 (this is bullshit though, he's too busy working with NaS and Raekwon at the moment) and Wikipedia says january 2007.

I think it's very good that rap has an almost built-in expiry date. How many Rock bands are still going that should've quit after two or three albums? There's obvious ones like the Stones or Dylan or Bowie or Young (I know some people defend later material by these - either way I don't like any of their stuff period). There's a small handful of rock bands who are still making good stuff after ten or so years (SY, obviously, The Fall, many argue REM, who I could never stand). But I think it's definitely a good idea to quit unless you're still making albums at least nearly as good as your best stuff.

I feel the same way, especially when thinking of artists like Nirvana and MBV. They would have probably eventually degressed in musical quality if they comtinued making albums. However, MBV still exists, so you really never know.
