Though "wallow" probably isn't the correct, or at least only term I want to apply. Think Mazzy Star, New Order, even The Cure. Yes, I'm going for cheese.

do you mean stuff like Belly or Elastica, the sort of stuff that a student who doesn't really like non-mainstream/weird music but likes the idea non-mainstream music would get into to while at university so they could feel more cultured or something?

Take what I "said" right there, and imagine writing a full letter of it and sending it off to a girl you had a brief whirlwind passionate romance with only for her to abruptly disappear out of 'overwhelmingness'.
