this shit is so ridiculous it is not even funny.. Christianity IS ALL ABOUT HUGS! when I go to Ethiopian church, I have to hug EVERYBODY THREE TIMES with the TRI-KISS to the cheeks.. these Pat Roberston types would have a heart attack, and they would be more surprised to find out that Ethiopians are so conservative that aside from Christian hugs and kisses as a greetings, men and women do not touch, they do not hold hands, they hardly even sit within two feet of each other in public...

I suspect Christianity's tradition of asceticism derives from a strain of Platonism. it's fascinating to consider how many various, and sometimes conflicting, philosophies are in play with the world's most successful missionary religion.

I think the rapping thing may be a joke, though a very weak, half-ironic joke.

I'm certain, though, that the side hug thing is legit. I actually had the misfortune of being dragged to one of those Youth Ministry Conference things as part of my Confirmation. In fact, it played a big role in my desertion of the faith. That taint of dumb evangelism stood antithetical to what was, and to an extent still is, my spiritual identity.
