First, let me start by saying that my main excuse for making this thread is that there's an excellent piece here, in today's edition of Telegrph.co.uk about a new film that reveals him as 'warm, witty and utterly unaffected'.
He says: "I am an old scholar, better-looking now than when I was young. That's what sitting on your ass does to your face." I've recently got into his work, after purchasing a cassette of his greatest hits for 30p (50c?). I'm enjoying his work immensely, 'The Partisan' currently being my favourte track. I'm also reading his novel Beautiful Losers. Does anyone care to recommend what they consider to be his vital works? Is there a good recommended live LP (I'm partial to live material)? I don;t think there's been a thread concerning Mr Cohen before, has there?

I like Leonard Cohen. Tower of Song is a great song.
Theres meant to be a Jeff Buckley film being talked about too, supposedly.

Pretty much everybody's favourites are his first four albums. I am no different. That would be (in chronological order)..
Songs of Leonard Cohen Songs from a Room Songs of Love and Hate New Skin for the Old Ceremony I guess if I had to pick a favorite I would go with New Skin, but they're all great. |

Was there a thread about Leonard? Sorry if I've missed something! I wanted to share that article, which is well worth reading (and includes a video clip), and I thought why not get some opinion too? See what the general concensus is...

Ah yes, I said I was reading his novel! I forgot I'd asked there, and I haven't looked in that thread for some reason - I'm off to find your recommendations now, and I thank you in advance. Thanks mate.
Don't forget the article I linked!

I don't think I've heard anything by him, people have told me to take a listen though.

I haven't listened to him, either. I think it's the singer/songwriter that repulses me.

A good friend says that he's the only artist for whom everything they have done has been consistently wonderful. I always counter with the Fall, who he doesn't like. But I know I'm right.

Unfortunately I don't know enough about him to make any recommendations for you that amazon.com's "If you like ____, you may also like..." section wouldn't make for you. But I do thank you for starting a post about somebody for a purpose, and not just to look cool.
