A little-known fact - anyone who pretends to know the difference between metal genres is lying. Black/ Death - it's all goth to me.

darkthrone's first four albums and last two albums
sargeist/sarcafago if you want some brazillian flava bathory s/t tormentor satyricon (they kinda sucky though) celtic frost's early blackened thrash hellhammer's quintessential first demo immortal (for black metall sillyness with chops to boot) gorgoroth emperor (for arguably the most musical black metal ever) nilfelhiem abruptum infernus (for total nietzche misunderstanding socialist crap) newer stuff that is really great: bone awl pyha (yes believe the hype this 14 year old korean is better than burzum) craft (basically the ultimate cult band) ash pool (prurient's band) striborg brobdingnagain sabbat (japan's answer to venom and they can actually play thier instruments) geheiminis i could name a ton of dark ambient and other blackened forms of experimental shit, but i suspect you arent looking for that sort of thing |

Paysage d'Hiver rock my balls off.
And thanks batreleaser, you're a champ. I wouldn't mind if you listed dark ambient and all that stuff though, I'm interested in it all. |

Inade aren't horrible, I guess you just have to be in the right mood for it... of course... there's a lot going on in it compared to most dark ambient stuff.

o sorry i was gonna post more stuff but glice's comment was ridiculous.
lustmord, duh, "heresy" is the best some exquisite corpse (with a lot of this stuff youll find guys going from this stuff to oddly instrumental dub type things, such as this dude) kk null himself has done stuff within the genre autopsia's stuff sometime qualifies as such beherit's second two albums maeror tri (early ambient noise kinda dark ambient) peter andersson is the master of dark ambient, check his projects necrophorus and stratvm terror both. some of david jackman's stuff oh and that reminds me, beherit's second album "drawing down the moon" is the best black metal album of all time and is also a great example of true noise metal. |

Usually I'm the first person to say "hey, there's already a thread on [topic]." But in light of there being 500 threads dedicated to Animal Collective's average-at-best new album, I'd rather the board be flooded with people repeating themselves reccomending the same ol' black metal bands. Wouldn't you? |
