Bettie Page at 80. What a sweet old lady she had become. Too bad she hated her old age and refused to be photographed for so long. |

for the past 40+ years or so bettie page was a born again christian who renounced and decried everything she did in her "past life" as a stripper/nudie model, she had a rough life after the 50's.
married and divorced three times, mental breakdowns, diagnosed as schizophrenic, 20 months in a state mental asylum in san bernadino, arrested for assault, (not guilty due to insanity) and state supervision for years, in 1992 she was released from the state hospital. it seems she was lucid at times, having her lawyers sue people to recoup some money from the many merch items with her likeness on them. that must have beena rough rough life. she did NOT have a happy life. *edited for spelling

tesla, sometimes, in popular culture, one person comes alog at just the right time, and with just the right look, and I guess Bettie page stayed as the anti-Marylin Monroe, a brunnette, with more carnality in her images than glamour, more kink than seduction.
her and marylin would make a nice rob instigator sandwhich. ha! plus all the rockabilly sad-sack fucks think she is a style icon or something , as if she was the first to have brunnette hair with bangs. but the lady was FINE and thick and delish. this was the playmate centerfold in 1955. she was a playmate in playboy's second year.

man, bettie page got so much grief from people back in the late 50s and shit for her pictures, especially her bondage and s+M pictures. She, like linda lovelace from Deep Throat, said that she was drugged to take some of the pics she did. who knows? she was schizophrenic, so she may not have been the most reliable source for her own history.

R.I.P. Bettie Page. I think her work was innovative at a time when most of America only saw it as illegal and sinful. She opened the doors for well, everyone. And she pushed the envelope. Now you want to see bondage pictures (if that's your thing), its just a click away. And look at all she's influenced. There'd be no Suicide Girls if it wasn't for Bettie. I think the one model who has clearly taken up her mantel is Dangerrr Doll. Who clearly is following in her footsteps. And there's also Dita Von Teese. Bettie did it first, and you can't take that away from her.
