so we have a two-bedroom hotel room here in frisco (as i am not actually staying in dallas). it's a handicapped room, the last two-bedroom room available, and i'm guessing the hotel admins think handicapped people love rooms that smell like hamsters and general nastiness upon entering a hotel room.
damn. what's the worst hotel experience you have ever had? this fun tale above is mine.

my family was in key west one august.... and a hurricane was about to hit...and the farthest we could get was Orlando... and we were with my grandparents... so 8 people in total... the only room left in orlando was some room at a POS hotel, it smelled like mildew and there was blue gum hanging from the ceiling... just hanging... won't forget that one.

when I went to phoenix back in nov, we stayed in a room on the way back in elk city, ok. there were no less than 850 flies on the ceiling. No exaggeration. As much as I was trying to be easy going and not high maintenance for my friend... I refused to sleep there. We were moved to the room next door which had 425 flies. No way no how. We left the hotel.
I stayed in a super 8 in Dallas last fall when we went to see sy. Fucking filthy as shit. |

My friends and I went to columbus to go to a festival. My one friend was a big Jello Biafra fan (he was speaking twice.) We stayed in a Knights Inn drive up to your room sort of deal in east Columbus. In the morning my other friend went outside to talk to his friend back home. When he came back in, a black man came right behind him and pulled a gun on us. He took our wallets (mine had a lot of cash in it because I had my high school graduation party just that week), my friends' cells, my friend's camera, and my guitar (I was trying to finish writing a song that weekend). He took the phone out of the wall and he cut the cord. He forced us into the bathroom and told us to wait there for a few minutes while he left. If we came out he was going to shoot us.
Yeah, I'm never fucking staying at a Knight's Inn again. |

um staying in a holiday inn is pretty bad. the sheets are scratchy and they have those horrible nappy velour blankets that somehow always manage to make their way onto the floor by the time you're brutally awakened by the blistering heat of the sun coming in through the drapes.
i'm not a fan of economy hotels in europe either but at least the sheets are okay. i actually stayed in a really great old hotel in paris once but the toilet seat was so wide i almost fell in.

Vancouver, BC. East Vancouver, mind you. We were many floors up so I assumed we'd have a lovely view through the window. All we got was a view of some smackheads sitting in a row along a fallen log telephone pole and an endless stream of homeless people drifting up and down the street. Two EXTREMELY weird guys started talking to me in the elevator, asking if I wanted to 'come see the fireworks tonight'. No thanks.
We left the hotel the next morning for a Travelodge in North Vancouver, but not before we got swarmed by hobos and numerous propositions by prostitutes. It wasn't the hotel itself I guess, it was the neighborhood. Oh and also, I once stayed in a tacky-as-fuck Best Western in Cheyenne, WY. It's the one with the giant cowboy boot outside. The room was decorated like a fucking steakhouse and it was right near the train yard, from which the sound of shunting wagons and cows (?) came all night. It was like that hotel in My Cousin Vinnie. |

san francisco as well, not an international hostel as advertised but a dumping ground for junkies, alchoholics, aids patients, cancer patients and general low life scumbags and me. i did not sleep well at all. the area was also like a de-milatarised zone with some pretty scary people walking around.
in san bernadeno i stayed in one that was quite dirty, hookers over the road and constant police activity happening around the area. as well as packs of dogs running up and down the street. i didnt want to go back.

I stayed at a place in Minneapolis once where you could hear the ice machine down the hallway clattering about every hour or so. Really annoying. They only had basic cable. And in the morning, the breakfast coffee was really weak.

amsterdam: girl fell asleep in the shower for 10 hours and i thought she was dead. stag party turned up and put drugs in my bag without me knowing. next door was a porno theatre, over the road was a hookers flat. not very relaxing.
prague: noisy school kids running around knocking on my door at 5am, racist australians. LA: found out the place i was staying had closed down previously due to utter dirtiness and public health law violation. arguments with staff, noisy, smelly, dirty, no kistchen. more racist australians. seattle: my room had a priest, a redneck on trial for fraud (although i am pretty sure it was assault), a fundamentalist algerian, two drunk english guys. imagine the conversations! athens: first night there police where called for a disturbance which escalated into a brawl. i was almost involved seeing as how some of the people where staying in my room. crete: cockroaches. thats all i can think of for now.
