...a writer and old friend of mine in atlanta inspired me recently to pick up a project that had been sitting around in various sketch books for a long time... sort of frank miller meets magaret mitchell... slightly steampunk... the sort of movie where certain buildings or locations become characters in the thing also... like Barton Fink or The Tenant...
so here it is... sort of storyboards for an opening scene...... would you watch this movie? click to start Sound ...fade from black as the camera struggles to focus through the August air hanging over Piedmont park on an anonymous part of the atlanta skyline the camera passes various people from various walks of life in the park, each trying slightly ridiculous things to stay cool in the record heat.... pans across several buildings in the neighborhood... eventually coming to rest on a particular window of a decrepit yet pricey, condominium/tenement above a pub called smith's old bar at the north corner of the park..... |

they don't even have to be REAL undead zombies.
just toss in some haitians and blowfish powder....you should be good to go. everything tastes better with zombies. other than that, I'll be there watching the movie and talking as loud as I can about how I "know the guy who made it". although I don't really know you, let's keep that our little secret. |

... our main character awakens to the noon heat when a crumpled empty pack of lucky seven's hits him on the head. ... he looks over to the couch
"can you get some cigs? we're out..." she says he notices the haze of smoke glowing in the heat that the uncurtained warehouse windows only magnify. a single lit cigarrette hangs unsmoked in the ashtray behind her head with an inch and a half of undisturbed ash. he gets up to find his wallet.... .... he can feel the building shake around them as the freight elevator in the converted grain silo lobby clangs to a halt. as the echo dies down, she adds, "...and a soda?" |

he ventures into the portion of the loft in direct view of the sun to find last night's clothes and rummage for change. ...he goes through the pockets while he stares out the window, almost hypnotized by the pink-hot petrochemical haze over the highway... and comes up with just a lunch reciept that has a 13 cent coupon stapled to it... ...the whole building quiets up as the generators shut off for the afternoon and the air conditioner compressors slowly whir down... |

"...also ...don't forget to grab some ice on your way back... baby?"
scratching at the label on his boxers that itched the spot in the small of his back where his ceramic Fabrique Nationale usually was, he yanked the Dries van Noten tag off and stared at it for a second..... ... wondering if today was going to be lucky or unlucky..... |

...i wish i could write dialogue at all. i can invent a 'story' or a 'character' ...not necessarily good ones, mind you.
...but i can never write convincing dialogue for anyone but myself,,, i don't do that very well even. i just take photos to explain what i imagine... then again luc besson made a feature length film with a single word of dialogue at the end. he's luc besson, though.... |

I'm hoping that said ice is the casket scrapings from a cryogenically frozen society.

maybe these two run the wonder remedy company, which is really just a front to get their healthful elixir on the menu at the corner soda fountain, where it turns unsuspecting teenagers and their dates into sex zombies.... and these icy casket shavings from the cryogenically frozen martian society are the only thing that can turn them back!
