Yeah.
When I heard they changed the drummer I was quite upset, but listening to their new stuff it's pretty great. Slowly becoming more melodic though. |

i don't want to hate dep, i really don't want to.
miss machine was ok...make that "spotty" but some songs were awesome, and now with this new one, chris is out of the band, i personally think dimitri was a way better singer than greg and ben seems very defensive on interviews (not a good sign) and i can only wonder what that album sounds like, i don't want to be disappointed by it. i figured i'll eventually listen to it and hope it's what i imagine (conventional song structures and melodic vocals without overtly going metalcore and retaining the crazy ass playing in some ways) and not what i hope it's not. |

You can here the entire thing on their myspace page.
It has a lot more, electronic, dare I say sounding elements to it. Compared to calculating infinity being more guitar influenced. Also Greg seems to be using a lot more different vocal styles. |

They've lost their fire. I saw them a few years back and it was pretty good.

Okay, I was an.. uhm.. "original" DEP fan (from their self-titled days; Under the Running Board, Calculating Infinity, and their splits with Drowningman and Nora blew my fucknig mind at 14 years old).. but Miss Machine was shit. Pure fucking shit. Just terrible. Greg is such a worthless vocalist. He sounds like a fucking idiot. He can't decide if he wants to be Trent Reznor, Dimitri, or Mike Patton -- and he ends up sounding dumber than that Horse the band fucker. Plus, their songs on that album that sounded kinda like Linkin Park (if you don't believe me, go back and listen) were an embarassment. I know they were, uh "trying to do something different", but yeah. It sucked ass. I haven't heard the new one; I'll give it a fair assessment, but yeah. I really really don't like the direction they're going on, and I doubt it'll be any good (not to mention that pretty much all their members left).
I don't think they've "sold out" or whatever, I just think they create music that isn't very good anymore. Still, I'd see 'em live again. Saw 'em live many years ago, and they had a firebreather on stage. So much fucking energy. Awesome. |

i was trying to be very positive about miss machine, some songs are amazing, panasonic youth ranks with caffeine and sugar coated sour or mullet burden as one of their best songs; but i did mean to say they had some really shitty songs (that's why i used the word "spotty") there too. my favorite part of miss machine is the dvd that comes with it.
like i said, i don't like greg's singing, he's more like a stage presence. |

I don't really like them. I saw them maybe two and a half years ago and the one guy there was bleeding all over. They're crazy people.

Yes. When they're setting shit on fire and all that crap, I do wonder where the fun is? Serious, emotive shit is cool and all, there's just an invisible line that some bands cross which makes me a little uneasy. Or maybe fire just scares me abit. But aggressive live shows aren't really my bag - I'd prefer to listen to the album instead when it's like that.

when i saw them live, they weren't like violent or anything, they just played really fucking hard and kept jumping and running and stuff; at some point, greg grabbed ben's guitar cab and put it in the middle of the stage and when they played "when good dogs do bad things", on the quiet part in the middle, ben climbed on top of the cab, when the song resumed he jumped and went crazy.
in the middle of the show, ben and brian's guitar cords got tangled with greg's mic cable and it took them some 7 minutes to have them undone and so they could go back to playing the set. it wasn't violent at all, in fact, there wasn't a mosh pit or anything when they played, most people were too stunned to start one...and one band before, a static lullaby or whatever that shit ass band is called, people were slamming and crowd surfing. |

I just heard them a couple of weeks ago. One of my friends is really into them. They're pretty good for alot of the shitty music that they get lumped in with.

Yeah, they're cool. And you're right, they do get lumped with that scene, when they're really just a metal band. I went on their myspace for the first time in a long time, and the two demos they have up don't do anything for me as opposed to their self-titled and Dead Water albums which are fuckin' awesome. So on account of the demos (which are old) I'm kinda glad they split, considering the demos Worms of the Earth have up on their page at the moment (Coreys new band). http://www.myspace.com/wormsoftheearthlovebeerbongs
