Last night, I saw an outstanding performance in a Sacramento living room by a Portland band called Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly!, one of the newest and most life-affirming free-jazz outfits to soar the skies from your own blown-out minds. The band is a quartet of tenor and alto sax, drums, and piano, and all four members are astoundingly excellent, skitter tastefully between tight and fancy-free, and they all really feel it and are contagious. After seeing them the previous night in Davis, our own DJ Andy arranged to record them in KDVS' Studio A for a taped broadcast during his "Lewd Dance" program last night. I've got the mp3 download for this performance parked on my blog... http://artforspastics.blogspot.com/ Find out more about Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly! Fly! here... http://myspace.com/flighflighflighflighfligh And catch 'em if you can on tour right now... 26 Jun 2007 8:00 Oakland - 21 Grand 27 Jun 2007 8:00 San Francisco - Hemlock Tavern 28 Jun 2007 10:00 Santa Barbara - live on KCSB 91.9FM 10-12 mid 29 Jun 2007 8:00 Los Angeles - Dangerous Curve 30 Jun 2007 8:00 National City (near San Diego) - Smog Shop 1 Jul 2007 8:00 Fillmore, CA - The Grounds 2 Jul 2007 7:00 Salt Lake City - Red Light Bookstore 3 Jul 2007 8:00 Missoula, MT - The Palace 4 Jul 2007 8:00 Coeur D'Alene, ID - Moscow Bay 5 Jul 2007 8:00 Seattle - 1412 Gallery 6 Jul 2007 9:00 Portland - Valentine's w/Evolutionary Jass Band! If I compare this to any free-jazz greats of yore, you'll think I'm exaggerating. So just have a listen!
