he hasn't clicked with me so far... i saw him as ww and the vanishing voice last year and i enjoyed that, but after that the stuff i've downloaded and the ep that was in the threelobed series couldn't really win me over.
what have you been listening to? |

The new album and the 3lobed EP sound more like Devendra Banhart than NNCK...for better or for worse.

I have the Wooden Wand + Vanishing Voice release entitled ''The Flood'' and I'm really getting into it, and I do mean really, so much so that I'm going to a charity shop and buying all new clothes, a guitar and possibly a manequin to mimic the vocals of the female member.
ahahaha....no really, I like the album, I think the equation everyone is looking for is: John Fahey+Sunburned Hand/NNCK |

I wasn't all that impressed by WW at ATP, and I don't think I was too keen on the Threelobed release either, although it's a while snce I listened to it.

I'm going to see what is supposed to be the final NYC show of WWVV tonite actually. WW (i.e., James) wants to work on his own stuff. There's always been a dilemma between James' clever and strong songwriting and the bands' ability to create compelling and conscious free music/jamming - I saw them Friday and have no complaints except it was only 20 mins. Personally I'm more of a fan of the bigger lineup. Musically they range from mountain americana to the more aggro free jams a la Tower Recordings...I gotta admit after buying 5 albums in one year in 2005 I haven't bought anything recently, maybe the new 7".

I saw them opening for SY a while ago in Boston, and they were pretty good live, but I haven't listened to any of their actual records.

Depending on your response tomorrow, if you have access to a car you should think about heading otu to Amherst Friday, killer lineup at the Unitarian Meeting house - WWVV. GHQ, Alasehir (Bardo Pond instrumental side projec) and Kahoutek...I'd go if I could get a ride from NYC (although I plan to see Loren Conners at Issue Project and then see Major Stars at Southpaw...so its a good night anyway) |
