while talking to my friend about guitar hero 2 for xbox360, he was shocked at the price.
he suggested that instead of spending the $90+ on the game and controler (gotta have that) that I buy a real guitar instead. my response was "I had a guitar. remember? someone pawned it for dope." (after which I felt slightly bad). although I think guitar hero 2 would definitely be the bomb....I wonder if he's right and I should just suck it up and teach my left-handed self how to play. suggestion? |

Learn to play a real guitar. You don't need an xbox to play it and it's much more impressive than being a video game nerd.

Restringing is easy, but I guess if you're a first timer you should get some HALP.

I'd say guitars. The general design of guitars hasn't changed for a good 50 years now, whereas the xbox 360 will be as useless as a ps1 come 2010.

True. Buy the guitar. If you play it for ten years and then need drugs, you'll still be able to get at least a ball of glass.

My dad bought Guitar Hero II. I think it is a retarded piece of shit. I hate it so much. I want to destroy it. But I'm too cheap to actually destroy it. So I beat the whole fucking thing in 2 days. Don't bother.

did you you beat it one HARD?? that's crazy shit. my problem with the game is being left handed. not being a guitar player, I would think that the left handed fingering would make it easier, but I guess the rhythm is all in the dominant hand. my sour notes earned me enough ridicule from my friends that I wanted to learn how to rock (and thereby prove them wrong). should I get a cheap electric guitar or an accoustic? personally, I want to make loud noise more than I want to make music. |

Ha, I beat it on medium. Hard isn't that hard. I just won't get 5 out of 5 stars anymore.

Let's face it: Video games are always better than real life activities. If they weren't, this country wouldn't have a weight problem. Real guitars are not fun. I've never played video game guitar, but I imagine that it would be worlds better than the real thing.

I'd say guitar. I'd say pawn shop = no. Buy it direct off a junkie friend instead.
Everyone has a friend who doesn't need their guitar anymore. You don't need a good one. I bet you can find one to learn on for $40. I did. Canadian. But if it's electric you gotta buy an amp.

and THIS is the exact reason why I wonder. I know that I'm lazy and it would take serious drive to learn how to play a real one (especially since I'm old as dirt). it's just that the long term benefits seem better. I WANT to play. Quote:
thankfully, my friends are no longer junkies. but I hear what you're saying. I think I may just end up buying something new, with a cheap amp and maybe a pedal to make it noisy. |

Play real music with melodies instead of making dumb noise that anyone can make to make yourself look cool. Just playing, man. I had to take it. |

See, I grew up with video games rather than musical instruments. So naturally I'm more inclined to play video games. My parents never put any emphasis on music, or learning to play it. So when I started taking guitar lessons, it was a huge leap for me. I don't take them anymore. They didn't really have any effect on me, as far as making me want to play more. I know I probably learned a lot during the 5 years that I was there. You'd hardly be able to tell, though. One thing that bothers me about playing the guitar nowadays is that I'm not certain I'm attracted to the instrument itself, at least not enough to make me want to keep learning and playing it. When I get ideas for songs, or whatever, it's not the guitar that I immediately think of playing them on. And I know I'll probably never get to the point where I would want to play the guitar in front of anyone, no matter how capable I could be on the instrument in the future. My point is that I would much rather play Yoshi's Island and just listen to the beautiful music on that video game, while trying desperately to reunite baby Mario with his parents.

Guitar. hands down. And, if you play yr cards right, you might be able to squeeze a pratice amp out of that $90 too.
