King of the Surf Guitar. Played high speed tremolo picking, middle eastern scales, at groundbreaking high volume. Miserlou is the great-grandpa of Death Valley 69, in style if not substance. Field tested a lot of early Fender gear for Leo Fender. Kept touring through to near the end to cover the costs of cancer treatments.

An absolute guitar demon and one of the true greats. He was also Little Richard-esque in the sense of going around saying stuff like I am the originator, I am the emancipator! - Dick Dale would tell you he invented metal, punk, "indie", you name it. Which is fine: an original who could play like such a motherfucker's got the right to boast a bit sometimes.
