I loved doing the oldies show on WRUV in the 90's- they defined it as anything more than 25 years, so I generally went for the heavy psych.
Is this a paid gig, Rob? |

It is a former AM community station that got licensed to broadcast on FM. I am prepping packets and looking for sponsors for station, local businesses and such. I would make $$ from commission of sales, but right now doing it for fun and beacause I have always dreamed of beinga radio DJ. I play tunes from 1951-1992.

Tune in tomorrow for SONIC LIFE with me, DJ RXTT, from 10 AM to 1 PM, as I play bad-ass oldies. If in west houston, Katy, Sugar Land, or the Ft. Bend county area, listen on 96.1 FM.
Listen online anywhere in the world, or outer space, at 96oldies.com or through the TuneIn app, look for 96 Oldies Sugar Land TX.

I'm tuned in to SONIC LIFE, listening via the TuneIn app.
"I'm Going Insane" is the first track I'm hearing. |

This is welcomed news! Exactly what is, "Positive Radio Frequency?" The station only plays music with a positive message? Is the playlist 100% yours? Are you playing songs stored in a system / computer or are you inserting CD's and pressing play? Could you play, "Ladies Nite In Buffalo" if you wanted? I enjoyed the show! |

the station was RADIO Positiva (spanish music) and the guy has not yet re-branded.
The playlist is 100% me. I pick the 3 hours, and play what I want, as long as it is older than 25 years, suitable for weekend morning radio in a suburban area, but the format he has chosen is purely chronological. a fifties song, then a sixties, then a seventies, etc. I go up and down, from 50's to 1992 then back down and then back up. that way I can play litle richard , creedence, the chi lites, talking heads, depeche mode, and back down the decades to the 50's. a big mix em up. I like to track the playlist so that similar vibe songs play after each other and it is not too schizo....at least I hope. I can bring files with me, or use his files, or actually search online and play the HQ track off youtube. no turntables though. I have some experience in radio but it was college and it was turntables and we had an engineers. this is all me, manning the board and the mic and the tracks.... fun as fuck.

other than me, and a DJ that comes in to do evenings during week, they do not have a full staff, so the songs come off of a database he has and a program that keeps playing tunes and ads....most stations do this until they finalize a lineup

since the station has no sponsorships yet i dont have to read ad copy or play ads, so I manage to get in about 50-52 songs in 3 hours.

I noticed and you did a great job at this. I didn't write anything down (I sometimes geek like that), but I recall you playing: Pet Shop Boys - It's A Sin and Kansas - Dust In The Wind back-2-back. Each song has orchestral moments and they really complimented each other! Same for when you played, Glen Campbell......really enjoyed that mellow set! I was most surprised (in a good way) to hear: Neil Young, The Stooges and The Church. Quote:
