Actually Adam, for once I wasn't disagreeing with you about music, haha. But there have been other threads on this board about how Animal Collective is terrible, and Pitchfork sucks for liking them. It was more that that I was referencing. But agree with you that one of their best qualities is the ability to actually try different directions with each album. That's what keeps me interested in them I guess.

Though the one disagreement is that I think "Peacebone" is one of the BEST songs they've ever done!

I'm a big fan of Animal Collective. Uh, I think I like everything they've done. I'm surely not really objective with them but whatever. Feels was important for me, cause it was the album that made me realise there was actually something new going on in the 2000's (before that I was this 15 year old guy that thought 00's was only revival and listened almost only 80's bands) - that and Liars' Drum's Not Dead. So they're an important band for me.
And I think Peacebone is very good too, though I prefer Cuckoo Cuckoo on Strawberry. But Peacebone is just so incredible live, when they do that acid bass intro and then start the first sample of the track - pure awesomeness. Also - AC really have great rare/unreleased/B sides songs. Like, listen to Safer from Peacebone single, it's just incredible. Or that On A Highway track they played once at all, in a BBC Session last year - gives me the chills |

Nah, Animal Collective are great. Even when I don't like their music, I can recognize them as a great, unique, melodically satisfing, forward-thinking band. Unlike say Battles or whatever.

Yeah, it's funny because I didn't put STRAWBERRY JAM in my Top 10 albums of 2007, but I think "Peacebone" was my favorite song of 2007. |

It's like I always say about pavement.. even if you don't enjoy their music, you have to enjoy at least some of their perfect melodies.

I enjoy the AC records I have. I just do not feel anything particularly noteworthy when I am listening to them, hence my designation of AC as a decent band, not something GREAT (IMO of course)

I agree Rob.
They are a good band, they've just not did anything properly noteworthy yet. Lots of potential though. |

I think just the fact that they consistently change but continue to make good-to-great albums is particularly noteworthy.
I mean, when I first got into them, they were actually pretty noisey and doing some really weird, dark things.. to see them morph into such a beautiful and melodic unit without "selling out" or having any real major missteps is just mindboggling. It's just purely good music that I think almost anyone can understand. I don't think there's anything challenging about it, yet it's different enough to not be uninteresting to people like us who have heard all types of experimental bands before. Just a great band from every angle. And I hardly even listen to them. |

Fuck 'em. I'd rather dance to proper music that was meant to make people dance. Paedos will like this record alongside your mum.
