Anyone know if their first album Soul Crusher is available on CD? I used to have it on vinyl before selling it. Now I can't find a copy anywhere.

good luck, those are very hard to find, try ebay.
i downloaded their whole pre-sexorcisto discography from a torrent but the files were corrupted, and i found out about it too late. |

What an awsome band. One of my favorite gimmicks for a band ever.

He mentioned them alongside other bands like (the now awful) Raging Slab and (Richard Kern's old band) Black Snakes as being part of the mid 80s NY Noise scene. After Soulcrusher, WZ just became another one of those boring sleaze-metal bands that clog up MTV 2 every now and then. Soul Crusher though is an immense album. Like a really ultra heavy Pussy Galore. I saw a poster for sale on Ebay but never the actual record. It probably goes for a total fortune now. To think. they couldn't give them away at the time. |

I remember seeing the first two albums on some mp3 blog not too long ago. Can't remember which one it was though.
I couldn't believe how wonderful they were first time I heard them. Every bit as fucked up as Pussy Galore, they were.

Ha ha have you ever heard of Dope? They're definitely not worth checking out. But I'm just waiting for the lead singer to get a 10 gallon hat! I like White Zombie, never heard of soul crusher but gotta check it out. I hate Rob Zombie and I hate his shitty House of 1000 corpses. I had so much hope for that movie and it turned out to be the most retarded piece of crap sexualized irrelevant horror movie I have ever seen. Way worse than Jeepers Creepers.

None of Whiet Zombie has really held up for me. I used to have their early singles and 12", sold'em for rent livingi n Vermont in the 90's for $100 (I see one single on ebay now goign for $100+). They used to play quite a bit circa 87-88 in NYC, one show I often talk about, I think it was the Lismar Lounge which was this thin old school bar on 1st and 1st and you'd go down into the cellar to see bands (sorta like Lit is now, but tighter and gloomier and no fucking celebs). Standing there I realize there is liquid dripping from above and its really dark and moldy. Great set though. FF to 1992, living in San Francisco and Sexorcisto is released, my buddy got us comped to see them play and there was like 20 people in the audience. I REALLY liked that album when it came out but shortly thereafter I got into the Melvins and Sleep and I kind of lost interest. It was weird when they became so huge a year or so later.
After the set we went backstage and I was talking to Sean and Rob very gruffly ordered Sean to come help with gear but I thought at the time (and my friend agreed) he didn't like me talking to her-we were getting along very well! |

dope, sure!!! most uninspired mediocre nu metal band of the bunch, i wouldn't be surprised if they were still together, the singer dude was also trying to pull a perry farrell, if you look closely. did you know his last name is "dope"? can you say poser? anyhoo, i'm also mad at rob zombie, his solo shit is abyssmal; the only song of his that's any ok and that's more like a novelty song, like "barbie girl" or "i'm 2 sexy", is "dragula" speaking of mediocre nu metal, i got assigned to write about static x, they used to be hilariously bad on record, i wonder what they sound like now? ED: ohh yeah, the reason i posted; their stuff is hard to find because, early on, they dealt with so many labels and distros and some of them crossed them badly, they didn't release soul crusher on cd because, a) i kinda remember it was a vinyl only label and b) the album is a gatefold with inserts and lots of art, it's the first album they went crazy (or more like, rob went crazy) with the artwork and they wanted it to remain like that. there's a website, approved by rob, sean and j, that's dedicated to wz pre-sexorcisto and has a nice discography with pressing info on each album and stuff. |
