yes, that "genre" that made alt rock the new mainstream. Started in Seattle, taken by everyone else, which of the bands were the best?

Well I was never really into Grunge too much myself, so I had to choose Nirvana. Now that I listen to Meat Puppets, Nirvana seems like nothing because they're practically a mix of SY's style and the Meat Puppets. Still like them though! Haven't got the chance to listen to Tad yet .
If you ever posted this on the Myspace forum's you'd have hundreds of pre-pubescent teens yelling at each other about whether Alice in Chains or Pearl Jam's distortion sounds better.

Well whatever you want to call it, of the bands listed I gotta say Alice in Chains. Their acoustic album is classic.

I don't consider Nirvana to be "grunge" at all. They don't sound anything like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden etc...
Anyhow I hate this term and what it's come to represent. |

pax, androol, i disagree with you both, yet i can sympathize with what you mean. i have said it before, so i guess ill say it again. grunge, as silly a term it may have been, was used to pigeonhole a type of sort of punky loud fast hard rockin' band. Nirvana, PJ, Soundgarden...they all fell into this catagory, at least a bit,. and people referred to them all as grunge, thusly, they are a "grunge" band.

no way youre missing it. the term grunge took off because of the slow songs on bleach not the fast ones. those had already been done by bands on amphetamine reptile. yeah mudhoney and green river are considered grunge i guess but i still think it takes more than what your effects pedal is. |
