Best Grunge band

yes, that "genre" that made alt rock the new mainstream. Started in Seattle, taken by everyone else, which of the bands were the best?

Norma J 08.16.2006 08:07 PM

Uh oh. Strap yourself in for the shitfight will begin.

LittlePuppetBoy 08.16.2006 08:08 PM

I bet.

Inhuman 08.16.2006 08:09 PM

Well I was never really into Grunge too much myself, so I had to choose Nirvana. Now that I listen to Meat Puppets, Nirvana seems like nothing because they're practically a mix of SY's style and the Meat Puppets. Still like them though! Haven't got the chance to listen to Tad yet :(.

If you ever posted this on the Myspace forum's you'd have hundreds of pre-pubescent teens yelling at each other about whether Alice in Chains or Pearl Jam's distortion sounds better.

acousticrock87 08.16.2006 08:11 PM

Well whatever you want to call it, of the bands listed I gotta say Alice in Chains. Their acoustic album is classic.

True. Jar of Flies/Sap is great.

HaydenAsche 08.16.2006 08:21 PM

Worst Genre Ever.

nomadicfollower 08.16.2006 08:48 PM

Who cares?
Also, who am I to determine which band is the best? I can only determine which is my favorite.

Androol 08.16.2006 09:50 PM

bleach is one of the few actual grunge albums ive heard and i believe the first made

k-krack 08.16.2006 09:52 PM

what? first made??? you sure? might want to check yr references on this comment, my friend.

Pax Americana 08.16.2006 10:08 PM

I don't consider Nirvana to be "grunge" at all. They don't sound anything like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden etc...
Anyhow I hate this term and what it's come to represent.

i think its completely opposite although im sure soundgarden have at least a couple songs that would strongly qualify i bet.

i dont think nirvana is a grunge band either but bleach is a grunge album aside from a few songs

Everyneurotic 08.16.2006 10:20 PM

fuck the mainstream!

plus, quit living in the fucking past!

k-krack 08.16.2006 10:20 PM

pax, androol, i disagree with you both, yet i can sympathize with what you mean. i have said it before, so i guess ill say it again. grunge, as silly a term it may have been, was used to pigeonhole a type of sort of punky loud fast hard rockin' band. Nirvana, PJ, Soundgarden...they all fell into this catagory, at least a bit,. and people referred to them all as grunge, thusly, they are a "grunge" band.

Everyneurotic 08.16.2006 10:21 PM

hey geniuses, what's grunge?

please, enlighten me, what makes a band grunge?

Everyneurotic 08.16.2006 10:23 PM

no way youre missing it. the term grunge took off because of the slow songs on bleach not the fast ones. those had already been done by bands on amphetamine reptile.

yeah mudhoney and green river are considered grunge i guess but i still think it takes more than what your effects pedal is.
