I really dig this band. I'm listening to Blue right now.
Vote. Talk.

They were a force of nature as a live band and damn good on most of their records.

David Yow - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia He was notorious for playing shows completely drunk and incoherent. It was not uncommon for Yow to remove his clothing during Jesus Lizard concerts, ending up completely naked by the second or third song. Considered a very charismatic man during live performances, Yow had the rare ability to transport audience members into a state of hysteria. ... Yow and Scratch Acid recently performed a series of reunion shows in Austin (09/02/06), Chicago (09/09/06), and Seattle (09/16/06). The Jesus Lizard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Their music was a scathing mix of piercing guitar, machine-like drums, propulsive bass guitar, and psychotic vocals, often reminiscent of The Birthday Party. Denison's stinging guitar often served more as texture or coloring than as a melody instrument, while the rhythm section's stops and starts were simultaneously precise and brutal. David Yow's frenzied, often incoherent vocals were quite unique, unlike anything past or present. David Sprague suggests that "Yow's disjointed couplets" are reminiscent of a "preacher speaking in tongues."[2]

I never got to see them. Would have been an experience, though.
Listening to Bang now. And Shot will probably follow that.

Not too big on shot or blue. Goat, Liar, and Show are the best. I went through a year where they were the band I listened too the most. I saw them at Lolapalooza in 1995 and they were completely insane and drunk by noon. They were also the loudest band I had ever seen, they were way way way louder than Sonic Youth. David Yow jumped into the audience about a dozen times during the first song. It was really great

Obviously, one of the best bands ever.
Their cd's in order from best to worst.. 1. Goat 2. Liar 3. Head 4. Shot 5. Bang 6. Down 7. Show 8. Pure 9. Blue I'd think. |

I'm green. One of my favorite bands. I thought (stirred with rumors) that they were going to reunite for Touch and Go's 25th. I would've been quite upset to miss it. |

I've picked up a few of their records over the years. Found Blue secondhand the other day, though. I like it, but I seem to be the only one on the net who does.

From what I've heard of them (mostly Liar), they are the reason Steve Albini was born. Which, incidentally, is a good thing.
