polar opposite of the regret thread, who by taking chance, special circumstance or just a super awesome show makes you feel most fortunate?

for me...

Sun City Girls at ATP NBC 06, and was only about half their set, how special a set that was really can't be measured at all, and such a tight set, the only unfortunate thing about it is that no one can ever see them ever again

and

Sleater-Kinney at 930 Club 06, on August 1st they were set to play their last DC show, Rogers Sisters opened up, then a club employee came on stage and said they had to evacuate and cancel the show due to a transformer that caught on fire due to the most brutal heat DC has had in years (steady 100F all afternoon), but rescheduled a two days later, and such a great set it turned out to be

Rollins Band supporting Nick Cave in 1988. I knew nothing of Rollins at that point, and was totally blown away by what I saw.

pantophobia - agree with you about SCG at ATP, that was an awesome gig.

Also really glad I saw the first UK Boredoms show in London, in March 1994 - it was around their "Soul Discharge" period, and they were totally brilliant.

melt banana at shibuya club quattro in '01, i'd heard of melt banana but never heard them, it was a pivotal and life changing experience.

the art ensemble of chicago - about 5 years ago. i won't and even try describe it, but i've never seen anything comparable, and probably never will again.

Sleater-Kinney in Philly, during the heat wave of 2006. I missed out on several opportunities to see them live since 2002 for various reasons. They announced the breakup a month and a half after I got tickets to the Philly show. So what was going to be my first of hopefully many s-k shows ended up being my first and last. At least I got to see them once though.

i think the three most important shows that i was at were
OM-live in jerusalem at the uganda. legendary 5 hour set
lightning bolt two hyears ago in a parking lot in providence RI, just cause it was an incredible and unique experiance tha i doubt will ever happen again.
pearl jam-mansfield 03 show 3
not the bigest PJ fan anymore. but this was the first show of theirs that i saw when i idolised them. thety play an hour long acoustic pre show set, then sleater kinney, then another two and a half hour set. the played 43 songs. its considered a legendary show amongst their fans.

other notable shows were the stooges in israel lst year. solo thurston gig with bark haze, whirlwind heat and BYOP in easthampton two years ago

the shows i mentioned are not necessarily the ones that i enjoyed the most (some of them are) but the ones that i feel most fortunate to have been at

I've seen so many legendary shows in the 80's and 90's. Too many to list.

One of my favorite moments was at a double bill show with the Exploited and Warzone.

The Exploited - left wing pseudo political punk rock with such gems as "Fuck the USA"

teamed up with the Lower East Side skinhead band

Warzone - right wing pseudo political skinhead band with a rabid NYC following.

This was one of the Chris Williamson promoted shows right after the legendary Jane Street rock hotel closed down. This one was at the Ritz on
11th street (now known as Webster Hall).

The place was packed. It was almost impossible to move. The crowd was pretty even 50/50 punks and skinheads. I was pretty friendly with a lot of different types of people at that time, both skins and punks. I was hanging out with my regular crowd. About 8-10 kids. We were mostly mohawk punk rockers. A few from Queens, the LES and NJ. Warzone took the stage and they were fucking tight. The crowd was going wild. There were a couple of angry words exchanged here and there between punks and skins but nothing too outrageous -
Warzone left the stage and the stage was then surrounded by skins, backs to the stage. The mood in the air was tense. The Exploited were about to get onstage. A couple of punks here and there were shouting things. A kid next to me, obviously ignorant of skinhead attitudes shouted out "Fuck the USA!" Much to the ire of a tall skinny skinhead guy in front of me. He got in the kid's face and the kid backed off immediately. No punches thrown.

The Exploited got onstage. They began to jump into their set. Hard, fast, not anywhere near as tight as Warzone. They were obviously peeved at having to stare at all those backs. About halfway through the second song they just gave up and dropped their instruments after shouting some obsceneties at the crowd.

They walked off stage - Wattie came back onstage with a pizza and threw it on the crowd and that was it. Show's over. Legendary. I was giggling for the whole rest of the night.
