i saw jello biafra friday night (6/23) in somerville, ma. it was an amazing 4 hour political rant. they had to turn on the lights and (possibly) mess with the sound system to get him off stage at the required 12:30. did anyone else happen to be there?

Welcome to the board when. I think it would be intersting to go to one of Jello's spoken words. Plus I'm always curious with how he currently looks. Any particular moments stick out that you can report to us?

I take it that it's all political? No personal anecdotes or DK tour stories?
I can't help but think of Rollins...his spoken word stuff is great. |

Jello is a genius.
He's also working with Ministry/RevCo members. Possibly a new LARD album in the near future. Who knows....

new lard album would be cool, jello's spoken word can get a bit tedious because it is mostly preaching to the converted, i buy all the spoken word albums to support his work and at records... but i probably wouldn't go and see a another spoken show

I was just going to start this thread! I saw him last week in Buffalo (for the second time) doing his spoken word thing. I talked to him afterwards and he was very friendly and quite approachable. I'll post pictures when I finally put them on my computer! It was really cool though, DK are one of my very favorite bands ever. Well... DK WITH Jello that is.

Bah, one of the most terrible concert experiences that I ever had was when I saw Jello & the Melvins in Cologne. It was so fucked up.
Ever gone to a punk concert to hear the überpunk frontman of the band congratulate you on your glorious goverment and country (in this case the pseudopacifist SPD & Germany) and suggests you to re-elect your grandious leader, (Schroeder), while pleasing the anti-american crowd* with silly, cliche-ridden remarks about the average american? I did. *german punks are, sadly, pretty anti-american in the majority. for example, german punk band Slime, which holds a legendary status among a larger part of the german punk crowd, have some racist anti-american songs like "Yankees raus!" (featering a cover where a punk hand stuffs a hamburger in the face of an american clerk) and "USA, SA, SS" (in which the USA is put on the same level like the Nazis, a popular way of thinking in Germany, to reduce the german past).. |

i was there in summerville. it was great! i stayed about three hours then left (had to work a 5:00 am the next day). i dont agree with him on everything but he had a lot of good points, and he was very articulate and funny. i think the only thing about the DK that he mentioned is that east bay ray is a backstabbing bastard

i like jello a lot, a very intelligent guy and an engaging frontman.
but he's a leftist fascist, no doubt about it. |

the show went on for four hours, so a lot of people left, but i guess that's expected when it goes that long. i don't think he's a complete leftist fascist, as he talked about "one of the few things michael moore didn't lie about in farenheit 9/11". now there's a lying, leftist fascist. a slight problem was the lack of merchandise supplies, and they sold out almost everything, but i at least managed to get a t shirt.

I met Jello Biafra. I was wearing a Gang of Four shirt and he didn't even know who they were. He is a lame ass poseur.

I'll agree with that. I saw him speak, and he pretty much used recycled jokes from the Daily Show and talked about how pharmaceutical companies hate him. |

My sister was just saying Biafra is coming to Maryland to do spoken word...Seemed really odd to me.
I could see him ranting....All religions suck, all religions make me sick. |

His rhetoric is scarily close to my Grandmother's. He even talks in the same voice.

I think Jello's got dread locks now. Pretty strange for a white guy who once ran for California political office.

4 HOURS??? Wow, I'm seeing him tomorrow in DC. I don't think the metro runs that late. I'll probably have to duck out early.
