I want this pedal very badly and am about to purchase one (I hope). Although I have read alot of reviews and everyone loves it, but it has a huge volume drop...and i have read some threads about modification and shit, but I;m too afraid to modify my pedal. Would it still be worth buying without modifying? What it i combined it with an overdrive pedal, would that fix the volume problem?

Why don't you just make 10 louder and make 10 be the top number and make that a little louder?

You could find a place that will mod it for you. Try the harmony central effects board. I'd guess that it wouldn't be too expensive. I was interested in one of these too, but the volume drop is lame. It's a freakin' distortion pedal - it should go loud. My Small Stone has a very noticible drop that bugs me. I'll eventually get it modded. You might be able to push it louder with an overdrive, I do that with my Danelectro Octave Distortion and a Turbo Rat. |

If you're talking about the MXR blue box, I own one and i can tell you 4 things about it
It's very very VERY low frequency. Most microphones won't pick up the sound well at all Turning the blend to it's maximum won't register any sound on the bottom end but the high notes sound like a nintendo game Forget about playing more than one note at a time. It's not possible with this pedal The fender blender is better and crazier |

The difference between the Blue Box and the Fender Blender is that the Blue Box has an octave down signal, and the Fender Blender has an octave up signal. |

The blue box volume drop is never that bad for me. Only when the battery is low is when it starts to drop a little.
You'd be amazed how little use you find for such a great pedal. |

My friend bought one yesterday out of the blue.
I really do like it and it's crazy nintendo/synthy sounds. The tracking is horrible on the low notes though (which is why I've never been too fond of octave down pedals). It sounds awesome on the higher strings. The volume drop is noticible - it makes me wonder why they never corrected it. Perhaps the low notes blowing out guitar speakers? |

I tried it out today, and I wasnt all that impressed. It didnt seem like the volume dropped as much as the sound turned to mush when I turned it on to try a solo. The tracking bugs me like I said...sounds good on high notes mostly. It is a really cool sounding pedal, but I probably wouldn't get much use out of it live if I bought one. I'd probably use it here and there on recording though.

I use mine generally for making feedback less shitty. The only feedback my amp can get out is really the horrible high-pitched squeal, but when I run it through the Blue Box and pickup switch now and then, I get great shit. I used it Scooter and Jinx. |

I found a step by step of how to mod the blue box - it's simple. I'm gonna do the surgery to my friend's tommorow - I might buy it from him if it works good.

I feel great knowing I wasted my money on my blue box. I just noticed the AC/DC jack does not work at all, and now the whole pedal just works when it feels like it. Bastard.

I'm not sure. I'm scared to take it apart really since I paid so much for it.
