Well, I'm going to be listening to some lowercase music too, like Steve Roden and Richard Chartier (the most minimal stuff ever).

Keith Rowe/John Tilbury - Duos for Doris has to be one of my favorite albums of all time.

Not even John Fahey!!!??? I like much of this music, particularly Keith Rowe/AMM, Nmperign and most of the Tokyo folks who play with Otomo Yoshihide and Sachiko M, but I think I might rather die than limit myself to it. Am I right to assume you're familiar with the I Hate Music message board? If not, it's probably a better place to discuss this music than here. |

Well, I'm seeing Jack Rose Sunday... I'm American primitive guitar'ed out, haha.
That's the second reccomendation I've gotten today to go to the I Hate Music board. |

That's very close to a list of things I was listening to about 4 years ago. I warn you, the novelty wore off for me very quickly. And the lower-case thing is the most conceited scene imaginable, with very few highlights.

I knew you would respond with something like that, Glice. I have been listening to this type of music for a few years but I really started getting into it recently. I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon, though, you're right, haha...

I'm nothing if not a prick, consistently.
More seriously, it's good that you enjoy this sort of thing. Because I get the impression a lot of people listen to it because it's quite marginal, and quite 'extreme' (as it were) rather than because much of it is any good.

Well, I've listened to some of it that is awful, and you're right about the "lowercase" thing and I kinda take back what I said now that I've listened to a few of those albums just now; in general, that stuff isn't really doing it for me. Some of it is too minimal, which is cool aesthetically but is just kinda annoying to listen to (I'm talking about some of these guys who release hour long albums where about 30 minutes of it is completely silent with about 1 second of random guitar plucking every minute or two). The "big name" people are really fucking good, though.. really interesting. Really liking all of Keith Rowe's stuff in particular, really talented guy.

Ooh - I'll tell you what, I've got something that's really quite rare of Keith Rowe's, I'll up that for you now...

I feel the same way more or less. Do not like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbNyn_x_F5w Like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6iDLmFLQI-I Though to be fair, I quite like Taku Unami when he plays jazz. In fact, I enjoy most of these artists better as jazzers. |
