I saw ToL in Houston last month. Highly recommended!

This took place in a different venue than I thought - decent layout and good sound but horrible bleed through from the venue next door -
Text of Light played as trio, Lee and Alan and Ryan Sawyer on drums. Maybe having Ryan there propelled them forward, but this was as good as I've ever seen them, they quickly moved into very dense and aggressive territory, Alan seemed to lead a lot of the sound with his incredible vocabulary, Lee taking over while bowing his guitar, Ryan pushing it all forward from behind with his strong 'free' drumming style. The movies were amusingly weird, lots of hippies and cocks and boobs and sun. I went to pull out my recorder and I found I had grabbed the wrong device, there was my camera. SHIT! Of course, it was an excellent set. Thurston was in attendance watching, I don't think I've ever seen him at a ToL show before... Tom Carter + Pat Murano put together a cool set, it seemed to take them a little but to find their way but once it congealed it was devastating, very heavy and dense sound washes with Tom's innovative guitar playing with it, album later this year should be good. Loren Mazzacane Connors + Suzanne Langille - Loren seemed to reserve some of his most aggressive and white hot playing for this set! Even with 'ethereal' singing of Suzanne Langille, he didn not restrain himself and she seemed more then pleased to interact with the staggering violence of Conner's playing tonite. He immediately accessed the plasma layer hidden in the electrons of his effects and amps to sear our fucking ears and silence the ever-yappers of williamsburg. A fine gig reminding me why I chose to live in NYC... cheers Jim |

Finally got to strike Text of Light off my list...it was even better than I'd
anticipated. Tesla's review of the whole night more or less echoes my sentiments.
