I dont want this thread to be a "sorry to hear that" type
but yesterday my nan died, and i went in to see her body in bed it was the most strangest thing ever to see a real dead person to see a body completely lifeless other people in my family said "it just looks like she is asleep" but when i seen her it was nothing like it.. i could see the life completely gone from her

dead bodies become less interesting the more you see...
however, seeing them become that way never gets old. last time I saw someone die, the paramedics stole her jewelry. |

It looks NOTHING like they are asleep. I have seen several dead people, including my father, my grandfather, my ex-wife's grandmother. It is inded a very strange feeling. I am sure this is fairly recent in human development though, for we all lived near our dying and saw our dead for most of the past 200 thousand years of human civilization.

I have seen a couple of dead people and I have seen a couple of people die (one in a hospital and one getting hit by a car on the street). They don't look remotely "asleep" to me, especially after being embalmed and made up. Seeing my friend in an open-casket funeral was no good. They look like mannequins; I don't understand the open-casket funeral thing at all. I believed he was dead when they told me he was.
I am sorry about your grandmother though. |

for some reason i think dead people, or at least the ones i have seen myself somehow look smaller then when they where living. my grandmother looked very small, almost like a child.

oh yes for sure jon boy
during the months that my grandmother was dying i mentioned to my sister that i had this image of my nan slowly getting smaller and smaller until clothes only remained in the bed one of the things that you can really see in a dead body is the way that they aren't holding them self up in anyway and that there is no-one in there thinking

-- i had need saying that i know but you mentioned her so i couldnt pretend not to read and carry on as if nothing. anyway my first corpse sighting (see above) was nothing compared with the efforts to resurrect him. |

sympathies to you and your family. i actually never looked at any of my relatives/friends/family that are lying in state. i just dont want to remember them like that. its just a thing of mine, like not wearing a band teeshirt with the same band at a gig that that band are playing. thats not a comparison, thats just one of my "things".

i saw my granfather in a casket when i was five, but i don't remember if it was open or closed.
i did see my frist dead body the other week when i was driving home from work and this guy was laying in the middle of the road and no one noticed but me. so i called the cops and told them. they said i didn't have to stay since i didn't see anything. they did call back though and asked if there would be any dents on my car from hitting the guy. it was weird though. he was outside of a strip club. |
