I would have to cheat a little and say the Liars...even though they contain only one Australian.
They completely blew me away at ATP on saturday.

I need to give Dirty Three another try - I saw them support Nick Cave quite a few years back and I didn't get them. I'm a thousand times more tolerant of instrumental music these days though, so maybe the time is right. The Saints are another band I want to give a try.

the dirty three are definately a small venue act to really get their intensity, and it depends how warren ellis is feeling he isn't so much of a loose canon anymore now he doesn't drink two bottles of red during their set. |

"if you want to cheat like that toxic you may as well say NIN with the aussie drummer"
Well this is very true... but in this case the Austrailian guy is the lead singer and is perhaps a little bit more important within the band hierarchy!

Yeah, when I saw them he was knocking back the red wine in a big way, and each song was preceded by some long rambling speech about what it was all about. I'm not sure if the speeches would have been his, but which ever of them it was was clearly a very drunk man. I guess I've seen the Bad Seeds with Warren about seven or eight times now, and he never fails to blow me away.

THE SAINTS - they have to be one of the most underrated punk bands around. I never hear them talked about and they were real innovative adding horns on their second record. They have a ton of classic songs.
The Birthday Party Also Wolfmother, even though i've only heard one song by them

Good Australian bands that I think noone has mentioned yet:
Grey Daturas, drone/psyche trio. Japan has Boris, the US has Sun 0))) Asutralia has Grey Daturas. I'm pretty sure most sonic youth fans will enjoy them, especially there lastest album Dead in the Woods. The Drones- good rock music along the lines of later The Scientists, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. They might be playign all tomorrows partys with mudhoney or something. Kiosk- punk three piece who are touring the states in a few days, they dont really sound like anyone except maybe Huggy Bear. Castings- Ambient/Drone six piece from Sydney. Their album 'allo hickory and a live CD are on sale at volcanic tongues I think. Oren Ambachi- he is touring as a member of Sun 0))) in the states. RAD Whitehorse- awesome awesome awesome doom metal band. http://www.getonthehorse.com/whitehorse.htm There is great shit going on in Australia that most people will be very unlucky not to hear. I've only known about it for about a year but we have too many awesome bands. Heaps of good bands (and some absolutely shit ones) are playing with Wolf Eyes when they come out so hopefully more people will see whats going on in there own backyard.
