I was going to lay off buying for a while but I saw:
Serge Gaingsbourg - Les Selections Du Cinema De Gainsbourg 12" And couldn't resist. It was only cheap. |

This weekend I hit the record stores to purchase my latest sound platters
I got the latest DEERHOOF, Friend Opportunity I got Bob marley and the Wailers - UPRISING ($5.00 used) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...rsUprising.jpg Bob marley LIVE ($5.00 used) The new Parts & Labor album MAPMAKER and the new SHELLAC - Excellent Italian Greyhound which, as is always the case with shellac, the provide the album in it's entirety on CD format, slipped inside the gatefold cover. It is a BEAUTIFUL cover, and it coems in a gorgeous drawn slipcover, which is grey and muted, so when I bought it I thought they ahd a separate cover for shellac vinykl. but it is the same cover, of the greyhound and fruit. BEAUTIFUL. shellac I love you Copper, can never be gold. plated or anodized, you fool the layman's eyes....

Nice little pick-up you got there. I got "Friend Oppurtinty" a while back & I've enjoyed it every time I place it on the turntable. & of course you can never go wrong w/ "LIVE".

How do you like Parts & Labor?
& how does Friend Op compare to earlier Deerhoof?

I have loved Parts & labor since I first heard a few songs online. I bought STAY AFRAID and it blew my mind it was so great. They truly have figure dout how to make noise rock (in the best vein of sonic youth and unwound and polvo and such) and do it anthemic. I hear *gasp* "melodies!"
I saw them play live here earlier this year and it was great. I bought an EP of electronic crazyness from them at the show.

The new deerhoof is much like their most recent stuff, bubbly and skronky and pretty .
They remind me of blonde redhead in their sonic curve, growing from experiments in skree to melodies and subsumed trepidation, although the redhead tend towards more of a scary, eerie, discomforting vibe, and the deerhoof tend towards more of a playfully eerie and discomforting vibe, all the while making you shake yr ass. that's the best way I can put it. Oh man the new SHELLAC vinyl is GORGEOUS

Yeah, my Shellac At Action Park LP reissue is really nice. It's the only Shellac I have so far.
I'm really getting into the Battles Mirrored LP.

I've been really torn lately between buying up the Sundazed/4 Men reissues that keep popping up (talk about gorgeous), John Coltrane reissues, and new releases. A three-way tearing. Not good. If I had deep pockets, it'd be no problem, but it's hard to know which way to let myself get pulled these days. Vintage, jazz, or new...
