The only record that has David Byrne on it that I like is 'My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts''. His voice alone makes me want to run to the loo. |

I don't know, maybe it is because my brother used to play fucking Talking Heads 24/7, but I really don't even like the idea of their existence as a band.

I could be that, in spite of being 'a bit funky', it's about as sexy as soil with a high PH. In the 1980s, that counts for 'seminal'. In the 90s, it counts for Jameraquoi [sp?]. Funny how times changes etc.

theres just nothing i hate more than people taking personal offense to others' differing opinions on pop culture, music, literature, film, art, or whatever. its the differences among us that make us all interesting, it would royally suck if we all liked the exact same fucking things! i mean, yes, obviously people on a sonic youth board are very generally into the same things, as far as underground culture is concerned. but theres no reason to get mad over people not liking the exact same bands as you. i mean, ive had people get on my case for not liking sleater kinney, the cure, the talking heads, etc... and its just annoying. i mean, ive seen people say they like weezer's first ablum, which i think is one of the most horrid turds of a record ever shat into our culture, and basically just emo punk accesible for low iq frat dudes. but, i never say this to anyone because i respect their opinion, and can understand that there is something about this music that they like. from now on i propose we dont start pointless arguements about our varying tastes.

I cant remember who said what about Black Flag, BUT I don know that if the early music of black flag doesn't get inside your soul and resonate with some type of emotion, something in your blood, then your perception of boredom is a off. There is no comparing BF to TH to RH, they are all different types of music and appeal to different parts within all of us, I to think that musically speaking Blank Generation is vastly overrated, but reading between the lines, it was still an important record for the culture. ROB, you have a genrally speaking open minded taste towards music, why do you think that black flag is boring?

anybody can like and dislike whatever they like or dislike without any real explanations. if you don't feel it, that's fine, there's other things you feel.

i was kinda comparing them in how much i enjoyed them plus the impact and influence, etc.
still, they are very different bands and uncomparable in most ways. |

It's ok, that was obviously a tongue-in-cheek comment. I personally don't see what the appeal of this most sterile of bands is, and that is hardly going to stop anyone from listening to them, is it? Well, in an ideal world that would be the case, but then in an ideal world I would force you all to lend you ears to more vital music than David ''Where's The Nearest Toilet?I Need To Sing a Song'' Byrne. Their brand of downtown NYC (or whatever they call it) funk-new wave-blah blah goes into one ear and deafens it for good. |
