Hmm.. I've recently found great love in taking tape, applying it to my fingers, and peeling it off, so I can examine my own fingerprints. At first a simple, giveaway thing. Not quite dirt, not quite dead flesh, a simplistic imprint of something that represents who I am. I can look at it from afar, and see something easy, approachable, minute... but the further you allow your eyes to dig, the more and more there is to see.. an entire complex universe, right there, just within the depths of the tips of your fingers... I stare as far into them as I can, and I pretend I am looking at the hedgemaze of a colony, weaving and collapsing right in front of me, on a thin piece of adhesive. It is nothing, it is foolish, and it is lovely.

You know, I miss the days when I could stay awake and watch the sunrise and smoke a cigarette with it and feel warm and content. I would stay up all night and come alive, like a child, getting done what normal people do during normal hours at the quietest time of night. In my house you could hear a pin drop. I was that pin.

It's darker inside than outside, and I resent that about this city. So alive in its apathy that I could choke on it. I lean on my rusty railing and smoke and watch people drive home drunk and stupid, disgust on my face but envy in my heart, because I know what it's like to have that forgetfulness, a hefty price for some ignorance.

To lay in your spinning bed and hear white noise, to not know the burdens of life, of knowledge, of heartbreak, of longing, of all the everythings that constitute life... wow. There's a gnat flying helplessly into my monitor, the only beacon of light in this otherwise eclipsed shelter, and I don't have the heart to tell him he can't go that way. I don't have the heart to push my thumb up against him and end his 8-week lifespan either. I don't want him to ruin the inner workings of my fingertips, because then I won't want to capture them on tape anymore. That's how I feel. Nobody has the heart to tell me I'm going the wrong way. Nobody has the heart to push their thumb to me and put me away because they don't want to get their hands dirty.

I understand... and I don't even resent you all for it. I could use some more resentment in my life. But that's not me... I'm just the guy flying towards the light.

Cantankerous, to me, was a similiar person... she seemed to have everything, but underneath her "Don't-give-a-fuck" SY Gossip persona, she had a much darker edge. I liked that. She'll be back. And even if she's not, let's be thankful for the time we had with her.
