Eliot scares me. He was too smart for his own good. Like Borges, but human.

Accessible, yes. But I have a strong feeling that there was no encyclopedia sitting next to him when he wrote. It was just all there. Trying to imagine his process is too much.

Borges at the beach? Now there's an idea. Look up every once in a while so the sun doesn't get too dark.

in terms of erudition, both pound and borges blow him out of the water. then again you have to realize that this is probably all he knew-- ask him anything about astrophysics and he would have probably stared at you with his mouth open. in any case--intelligence in a writer, it's a good thing. that's why we read them. who has time for stupid writers? oh yeah, kerouac fans... |

you guys should read allen ginsberg. not jack kerouac. if you're going the beat writer route. william burroughs can be terribly boring.

And the reason he scares me is that writing is potentially my career at the moment, and when I read people like that it's like John Keats at the Elgin Marble. I'm not that smart, and it's a bit intimidating. |

I have never been entertained by burroughs. I have been intrigued, and perturbed, and bored, and irritated, but never entertained or enlightened.
when a dipshit junkie near-retard like nikki sixx says Junkie is his favorite book ever, that just adds more stink to the shit pile as far as I am concerned.
