Rented "Dial M for Murder" from Netflix just last week and got a scratched up copy, now I'm watching it on Turner Classic Movies. |

chasing amy - 7/10 Pretty cool movie. Love how trashy, sloppy, and nasty it is... kinda felt like Smith was trying to sabotage his own career, in a way. I mean, the film flat-out feels WRONG at times, yet it works. At the same time, it feels REAL -- something I can't say for any of his other films (even the other 2 I like). It feels like Smith putting all his cards on the table -- really opening up, putting himself out there. It felt personal. And it's fascinating. Oh, and Jay and Silent Bob aren't in it for a while (and when they show up, they get a great scene). So, that's definitely a plus, they are the worst characters ever. Jason Mewes is just a talentless heroin addict. Anyway -- made for like a FIFTIETH of the budget of Dogma... and this is 5000000 times better! Haha! Anyway, I watched it like 10 years ago and thought it was garbage, but now, I really dig it. It's not nearly as annoying as Smith's films after this one! It actually seemed to have a heart, something I can't say for any of Smith's films. Here's all my Kevin Smith ratings: clerks - 9/10 mallrats - 8/10 chasing amy - 7/10 dogma - 3/10 jay and silent bob strikes back - 2/10 jersey girl - 3/10 clerks 2 - 4/10 zack and miri - 6/10 cop out - 5/10 related: vulgar - 7/10 drawing flies - 5/10 a better place - 7/10 Re-watched Hudson Hawk - 8/10 This is a great film. It's fucking hilarious! Why would anyone dislike this movie? "The last time you saw me, I had a bald head, a moustache, and a fake nose." Hahaha! All the singing, dancing... David Caruso's mime character painted like a statue. Hilarious film. So absurd. My favorite part has to be when Hudson Hawk is falling from a building and it cuts to him falling into some guy's chair. Obviously supposed to be completely different scenes in completely different times, but they got all elliptical -- which apparently confused Roger Ebert, even though it's supposed to just be a comedic cut! There's no deeper meaning in it, or the rest of the movie -- it's just fucking funny! I'm just not sure why great films like this, and LEONARD PART 6 -- absurd surreal comedic masterpieces -- are so overlooked and underappreciated. Awesome movies! |

I like Zack and Miri. The gross out comedy/romance stories definitely get me.

I liked it too. I didn't think it was funny at all, but at least it didn't annoy me or bore me like most of his stuff.
These are cool: |

I hate Smith. But I like 3 of his films. Most of his filmography is some of the worst shit ever made. I guess his film company dropped him or something, so he won't be able to make his "horror movie"? Can you imagine a Kevin Smith horror movie? Ugh.

Kevin Smith is one of my favorite directors of all time (in my top 10 or so) and CLERKS. is one of my favorite movies. It would be hard for me to give a bad rating to any of his movies, even though Cop Out was really disappointing (well, he has an excuse, he didn't write it). I think he's not an AMAZING director, he's just fine at directing but what makes him so great is the writing. I mean, look at Clerks: the dialogue, the situations, the jokes... Everything is 100% pure gold and quotable as hell ! This guy is even really funny in real life ! Has anyone seen "An Evening With Kevin Smith" ? That's probably one of the funniest things he has ever done.
Clerks. 10/10 Mallrats 9/10 Chasing Amy 9/10 Dogma 8/10 Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back 8/10 Jersey Girl 6/10 Clerks II 9/10 Zack and Miri Make a Porno 8/10 Cop Out 5/10 Also, Adam, I agree with you about Hudson Hawk, I can't believe how underrated it is, seriously... It's really THAT funny !

I've seen part of Evening with Kevin Smith 2... and then I realized it was 4 hours long and promptly turned it off. All the people asking him questions were just trying to be "cool", anyway. EVERYONE was trying to out-clever each other. Smith talks too much, too.
Clerks was good, but mainly because the actors were amazing, long unbroken uncut conversations -- great stuff. Reminds me a lot of SLACKER -- those superinteresting tales in the superlong takes. Smith is a decent dialogue writer, but tends to go overboard with the in-jokes, homages, parodies, etc. Some of his stuff is almost as bad as Family Guy. I had more fun watching the silly Cop Out than something like Dogma, which deeply offends me (not the religious aspect, mind you, I mean the quality of the film). Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back I've accepted as a film 'for fans only' and since I absolutely HATE those character with all my heart, it's no wonder I hate that film with a passion. He' not the worst director in the world but I highly doubt he'll do anything half as good as those first 3 films again. Minor trivia: GIRLS AGAINST BOYS are on the soundtrack to Clerks AND Mallrats. And, in fact, that's one of the main reasons I saw Clerks -- I've always been a big GvsB fan, and my friend had the Clerks soundtrack, I was like "whoa! Neat! A soundtrack with GvsB AND Jesus Lizard! Ohh!" so I said "what the hell?" and decided to watch it. It's probably the only time I've ever watched a film because the soundtrack was cool. |

I think An evening with Kevin Smith 2 is really funny but it looks more like a stand-up comedy show, whereas the first one is more of an actual Q&A thing and he says really interesting stuff, like the time he had to work with Prince or when he was supposed to write a Superman movie, etc. Very funny stuff !

Yeah, I've heard all about his Superman script... there's a giant spider in it... hah. I'm sure his version of the film would've been better than that awful film that eventually ended up coming out.

ni'k is right. This was pretty good. Not sure if I'd consider it the best King adaptation since The Shining though. 8/10 |

The first Evening With Kevin Smith is MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the 2nd. Watch it on YouTube or something, Adam. It's worth your time.
