Of course effects can ruin your original guitar to amp tone, I rarely use that anyway.

so i may have found a replacement for my blue box though its abit different and it may take some more convincing of myself to phase out the nice randomized aspect of the blue box, anyways...
at a fair price i got a used Boss OC-2 the made in Japan model (not the OC-3 Super Octave), its the older no longer made unit though it doesn't have the added fuzz it can provide a combination of 1 octave below and then 2 octaves below while also mixing the direct sound, where the bluebox cannot do this. its definitly not as random and unpredictable which i loved about the blue box, though it doesn't suck the life out of my guitar as much, with some fuzz/distortion from my Rat and Bigmuff (i put the Rat then Octave then Bigmuff in my chain) and at certain settings i can come close to the blue box tone, the effect works best with one-note runs, chords it has trouble tracking (like all octave pedals) and this sort of thing sounds weird and whoolley with fuzz, which is where most technical "guitarists" run to the hills because the sound is not tracking right. anyways not that it matters but i realized the bass player, Brian of Lightning Bolt uses one of these which is obvious from listening to them. now the next issue... not satisfied with my Dunlop Hendrix Octave Fuzz, which btw has never been the same after a repair was made years ago because i fried a capacitor. Don't really want another one because of how much they are and its limited use. been reading alot of great things (here included) about the Danelectro French Toast Octave distortion, and for the price... can't beat it. heard the octave mode can provide ring modulator-like tones with certain playing nuances which is attracting me to this. even Nels Cline had good things to say about it, generally i stay away from danelectro because i've always thought the quality was shoddy and their pedals look stupid and are made of plastic... |

I'll take pictures of my jamspace. I'm the audio tech / sampler dude, and everyone else has their own little parts. We do stuff that sounds like a mix of A Silver Mt.Zion and Gang Gang Dance, and we barely use effects, but we have a few.

i'm thinking about getting an ehx frequency analyzer next year, moogerfoogers are way too pricey for me when it comes to ring mod fx, anyone own one of these ? i checked out the ehx demo vid with the skinny guy but it's too short to really know what it's all about and would love to hear some more of it.
i'm going to run my bass through the bm, ceb and blue box tomorrow, real curious about that. *insert evil grin* |

Hey,
I've been playing guitar for about 6 month now and have a Boss DS-2 pedal. I was thinking about buying something new as an Xmas prezzie to myself, do you think a Dunlop Cry Baby is a good move?

meh, depends on what kind of music you make, i find that wah wahs get boring, for handy/useable fx below 100 bucks (reg cry baby price) i'd get some kind of phaser/flanger instead, delays are very interesting but good ones usually don't come any cheaper than 100 bucks. my opinion anyway.
but if you really want to spend your money well; sell the ds2 and get a rat2 or big muff. ;-) |

Oh, I forgot to mention, what was the reason you suggested selling the DS-2?

Yeah, but my point is,why sell the DS2? do you consider it not to be any good, or is it similar to big muff?

I've been looking at ebay but never seem to see things going much cheaper than in the stores. I don't see the point of saving say £10, when you don't get a gaurantee etc... anyways, have been looking at the Big Muff and it looks pretty cool...
