where the truth lies - 8/10 Yet another brilliant Atom Egoyan film. Actually I've yet to see one film of his I'd rate lower than an 8. Dude's brilliant. |

....it even made me like Brat Pitt (a little). I laughed everytime he said "nat-zees".
I really did say "WHAT THE FUCK" when Hitler died. I guess because I had the expectation throughout the entire movie that surely, he'd live. |

I fucking hated it.
(which is an overstatement, I was just very disappointed with the film) The parts I really liked were with that guy who could smell jews. |

it boggles my mind Dr. Eugene how we like so much of the same stuff, but then are so opposite on others. But I'm starting to assume you just don't even like Tarantino. So...

Jackie Brown is so underrated, 8.5/10, Pulp def 10, Inglorious 9.5/10 (woulda given it an 8 at first, but that movie gets better with every view).

chloe - 8/10 Another brilliant Atom Egoyan film. FUCK! Also, Basterds is probably a 7/10 for me, it's my favorite of his since Reservoir Dogs (an 8/10; would be a 10/10 if I hadn't seen City on Fire!). Ah fuck it.. My Best Friend's Birthday - 5/10 ... a bit silly and drawn out, and there isn't a complete version available, so it's hard to rate, but it did have a few interesting devices Tarantino never would return to; it's a bit more daring and interesting than a lot of his work.. definitely unique. Could've been fleshed out into something better (though it does obviously have elements of True Romance in it) Reservoir Dogs - 8/10 ... this film's biggest strength is Keitel, Madsen, Roth, Buscemi. Without them, the film would be nothing. Truly a film that lives and dies by its actors, and this is one of the best casts ever. Keitel is just perfect, proving himself yet again to be one of the best actors of all time (he did Bad Lieutenant the same year... I mean, damn, what a year). Pulp Fiction - 7/10 ... very important film, but I just feel it's way too long. Blew my mind at 10 years old or whatever; I watched it last year and I liked it but thought a lot of it could've been cut out. Still, important/iconic/whatever. Four Rooms - 4/10 ... didn't really like anything about this film. Very boring. Tarantino's "one-long-shot" / "Hey! It's Bruce Willis!" scene was alright. Rodriguez's story is probably the best. Features Madonna, who is terrible in every movie ever -- except the AMAZING "Dangerous Game", one of the most underrated movies ever. Jackie Brown - 5.5/10 ... just features characters I don't care about, doing things I don't care about. It's decent for what it is, I guess, but it just goes on too long. I like that he followed up Pulp Fiction with his most difficult work to date and didn't just try to do the same exact thing, make a play for "pop" scenes and so on. Still, it's just not a very engrossing film. Kill Bill (both parts combined) - 6.5/10 ... Part 1 is decent enough, if a bit silly. The crazy 88 fight scene is mindblowing. Probably Tarantino's best scene; for a minute, he transformed into John Woo (with swords instead of guns). Part 2 is ... drawn out. And the dialogue is terrible in spots. You're waiting for like 4 hours between the 2 films to see Bill and the Bride meet, and when they do, there's like 5 minutes of talk about Superman. Probably the worst fucking thing Tarantino's ever written. The best parts of both films could've been chopped up and been a kickass 2 hour movie. I dig that part 1 is all action, and part 2 is all.. eh.. atmosphere.. but it's just not very engaging in places, and it's loaded with characters I just don't care about. Decent, but nothing groundbreaking, just another revenge film. Was really fun to see part 1 in theaters. Death Proof - 1/10 ... the absolute worst experience I've ever had in a theater, first of all. I've never seen so many people walk out, yell at the screen, etc. I seriously was one of the only people in there at the end of the movie. I wish I'd left. There is just no angle I can properly appreciate this film from. I am obviously huge into experimental/underground/b-movies/whatever, and I just saw no value whatsoever in this movie, as an homage, a parody, a tribute, whatever. Let me save you guys 90 minutes. Three girls get stoned and talk about guys. Girls meet some idiot played by Kurt Russel. A car wreck happens. Okay, we're already 45 minutes into the movie. Now, 3 MORE girls meet this idiot after talking about guys and shit. A girl is strapped to the car for 15 minutes, riding around in the most boring scene ever filmed. The girls punch Kurt Russel. Roll credits. Wow. Nothing even remotely interesting happens during the entire duration of this film. I could barely stand listening to these idiots yammer on, and I've seen every mumblecore film ever made! Inglourious Basterds - 7/10 ... Tarantino back on track. How refreshing was this film? This would be a much higher rating, as I honestly think this is his best film -- definitely the only one I've seen of his that I'd consider unique (even though the music suggests a clear and obvious Leone tribute, I don't think the film ever really seriously approaches it) -- but Eli Roth almost ruins the film. Every scene he's in is TERRIBLE -- still, I don't care for war movies, period pieces, etc... yet Tarantino makes it interesting, in his iconic style. Truly great filmmaking, for once. ------ True Romance - 8/10 ... the problem with this film is, the first hour is one of the best hours in the history of movies, ever. Then, after the AMAZING, JAW-DROPPING, BRILLIANT, MASTERPIECE OF A SCENE with Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken.. well.. the movie kinda turns to shit for a while before picking up at the end. Also, features the worst soundtrack to any movie ever (a guy hitting a marimba for the entire movie). Still, brilliantly-directed and -cast, better than anything Tarantino has filmed. Natural Born Killers - 10/10 ... well, obviously, one of the best movies ever. See the director's cut. From Dusk Till Dawn - 6/10 ... I love the first hour, but when it gets into the vampire stuff, eh... I dunno. Probably Rodriguez's best film, though. And George Clooney's! Sin City - 6/10 ... strangely, Tarantino directed the worst scene in this film, though the lights reminded me of Pierrot Le Fou. Anyway, pretty cool film, just goes on too long, and the whole story with Clive Owen was pretty bad. The other stories were great though. Really fun to watch in theaters. ... That reminds me, I've seen every single Tarantino- and Tarantino-related film in theaters at some point in my life (finally saw a midnight screening of Reservoir Dogs a few months back at a local indie theater), aside from My Best Friend's Birthday, obviously! I love doing the whole "assigning ratings to every film by a director ever" thing, anyone got any requests? Haha. |
