yeah I'm not a huge fan either. whatever, their singles recently haven't been the cream of the crop, so this doesn't make me any less excited for the new album |

I have no problem with short songs, but after the first listen, this one leaves me wanting more. I like it, and the production sounds great, but a long instrumental "jam" at the end (not a noise freakout) seems to be in order. I feel like it never quite climaxed, whereas Starfield Road peaks in about the same two minute length.
When I first heard 100%, I felt like it ended too quickly, but it eventually grew on me, so who knows? The best thing is that this song really gets my saliva flowing for the rest of the CD. It has attitude and energy.

It's alright. I'm not crazy about it but it's only a 2 minute blip. |

It's not that I want another one. It's just that this particular song made me want one. I would also say that less than 30% of their songs have what I would call a "jam."

By the way, Summer, I just noticed your avatar. Rusty is a great record! Especially that first song. OK, enough of that tangent.

One thing I notice is that there's a rush about the new songs (from what I've heard: No Garage, Sacred Trickster and Calming the Snake) that the previous few albums haven't had quite as strongly. It's like they're thundering through the music, instead of stretching it out.
The speed riffage reminds of early Sonic Youth. Although it'll be interesting to hear if the longer tracks are more laid-back and less furious.

Yes, Rusty is one of my favorites. They're from my state too, one of the few good things Kentucky has going for it besides Slint and My Morning Jacket. What is No Garage and where could I hear it? >.> |

Just downloaded this song from Matador. Sacred Trixter is a cock-tease! Moar, moar, moar! Her vocals are really good, like, she was really in control of her voice more than she usually is at that volume.

Whoa I just now listened to this song with headphones instead of my crappy laptop speakers and now I'm not sure how much I like it actually. I mean I still like it a lot but the guitars.. like.. there's something about them.
Also I predict that Anti-Orgasm starts abrasively, just with how Sacred Trickster ends so suddenly. |

The sound quality and music was great, but Kim's voice and lyrics killed the song for me.

You have 12 posts on this thread and still didn't make your mind up? It took me 3 listens to decide that it's a very average SY song. Or are you afraid someone tells you that you aren't a fan because you don't like it? What are you, a 10 year old or something? |

I like it loads more than I expected to. Definitely getting the Goo comparisons. Not too into Kim's vocals but yeah, far better than I expected. And that riff that comes in at 0.25-0.30 - very into that.
I suppose some people could see it as a bit of a step backwards but, given what the forward steps taken on Nurse and RR resulted in, I'm not complaining too much. |

Okay, I just listened to all of it. I think it's alright, but nothing to get too excited over. 5.5/10

that it lacks any of the great things that I love in Sonic Youth songs. yes, it rocks hard, yes it's good great production, yes Steve is a beast on the drumkit, but still it bores me to death listening to it. "calming the snake" sounds way more promising to me though.

It's a great new SY tune and I love it.
If someone else likes it or not does NOT matter at all. It won't change my opinion neither my joy |

Hmmm, just heard it for the first time. I'll need to hear it a few more times to really pass judgement, but initially it does rock alot harder than anything weäve heard from SY in some time, but it almost should rock harder, for what it is. For me, theres something about the production that makes it sounds as flat and polished as anything on Rather Ripped. But it's fucking great, and kims definately on form.

I was listening to it on my laptop before, but just switched to headphones after reading your post. I dunno. I think it sounds even better. Certainly harder. I just wish they'd do something with Kim's vocals which, reading through other people's comments, seems to make me something of a minority. |
