I want the LORD album to be like 36 Chambers as produced by SpaceGhostPurrp, Clams Casino and araabMUZIK. Now the real question is, will the rest of the mob keep pace with Rocky? Is there room for Ferg and Nast and the rest to have individual careers of their own with Rocky breaking into superstar territory? |

"LVL" is prob my favorite on Long.Live too. So spacey.
Ugh I'd kill for SGP to still be working w/ A$AP. What a match made in heaven they were. Brought out the best in eachother. I think right now Ferg is poised to keep the same level of acclaim as Rocky. At least in the mainstream. He's def got on some radio shiz. His debut was awesome. And Forever Ferg was ridiculous ("Doe Active" alone was insane). I think he'll be up there. But I think that doing a proper A$AP Mob album would help them all big time. I know that they're perfectionists. I know they prefer quality over quantity. But seriously. We should have already gotten LORD. And Rocky's instrumental album.

Ferg is so versatile, every song on Trap Lord is like a different genre.

Yeah, what the fuck happened with that? Weren't we supposed to get a double album of A$AP Rocky instrumentals and beats, as well as a full length Mob album back in 2014? I'm really interested to hear what Rocky's solo beat/production work will sound like. I mean, it kinda feels a bit like Michael Jordon playing baseball... But still, wouldn't it be something if he just killed it? I can see how it wouldn't be a very fan-friendly move... But now would be an ideal time to drop such a project without the risk of alienating fans who've been waiting for a proper Ling.Live follow up. He should do that shit NOW! |

well I always had a gut feeling that he could pull a Carter 3... remember how the 1st press of C3 had The Leak EP included? I kept thinking that when the physical copies hit of ALLA, that there could be a bonus disc w/ either the scrapped LORD album or his instrumental album. We shall see...

I was thinking the same thing, actually. Maybe a companion disc of instrumental material. I'd be Ok with that. But I would prefer LORD to be a major event along the lines of Watch The Throne.... not that anything is quite that major... That shit is like.. imagine if The Beatles and Stones had released a split LP in '68! Or fucking Prince and Michael Jackson. Sorry ... It's really hard to make a post without thinking of, and subsequently changing topics completely to talk about, Kanye West. I'll work on that |

ok that new Rocky is so slow and soooo stoned. not dark or shockingly wild. can't say nothing really stood out yet but is listenable like a classic hip hop record. you can pick out the radio tunes through out. im sure the more I hear it the more it is what I expected from a hip hop artist on top of his game. new school old school shit.

speaking of scrapped A$AP projects, there was talk back when he got signed of having a deluxe edition retail release of Live.Love on Polo Grounds. Would have loved a remastered version w/ extra stuff.
Plus, I always thought that Lords Never Worry should have gotten a retail release as well. That one seems so slept on. Imagine both those tapes released as a remastered double album set? Oh and wtf ever happened to the rumored Lana Del Rey collab song?

I tend to think of hip-hol albums as separate from everything else until the time comes to actually rank shit together. But I'm with NR as far as hip hop albums go. So far it's looking like this:
1. At.Long.Last.A$AP 2. To Pimp a Butterfly 3. Tetsuo & Youth 4. If You're Reading This It's Too Late 5. B4.DA.$$ 6. Flying International Luxurious Art 7. Pilot Talk III 8. Mr. Wonderful 9. Sour Soul 10. Cherry Bomb Though admittedly, I am kinda blanking on some of the year's big releases at this point. There's been a lot of worthwhile hip-hop, but the really iconic stand-outs still seem to be A$AP, Kendrick, Lupe, Joey Bada$$ and Drake. As for all around album of the year, that's much more difficult. The new Jim O'Rourke seems like duh an obvious choice, but it's just a terrific album all the way through. But there's also.. Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - A Year With 13 Moons Thee Oh Sees - Mutilator Defeated at Last Eric Holm - Andřya Lotic - Hererocetera Jamie xx - In Colour (I like his DJ work so much more than the Xx.) But shit. If Pusha T drops an album that's half as good as My Name is My Name, things will get serious. And I'm holding onto hope that Kanye drops a release date on us before the 2 year anniversary of Yeezus. |

Anyone have thoughts to share on Jukebox Joints? I'm still a little thrown by Kanye's verse. Usually, when he drops a guest verse or lends production to another rapper's album, his cut is THE cut. Like on Mastermind, Honest and Cherry Bomb. But while I do like the song, that verse sounds like it was cut in the first take, and at least half improvised. It's not my choice for prime cut on ALLA, in fact it sounds a little disjointed.
That may have been the point, though. Making a song that sounds like four different songs, selected on jukebox somewhere in Detroit where shit hasn't been updated since the mid '90s. Still, I was really looking forward to it and I'm ever so slightly... let down.. Kinda. |

This will shock some, but I have absolutely no opinion of the hip hop albums of this year out of complete ignorance.. grad school swallowed all my new music time, hoping to take a crash course on Ghostface, Kendrick, and Earl over the summer.

so it just got revealed that Ghostface was supposed to do a verse on Jay's "Heaven" on MCHG but he turned in the verse to late so it didn't make the album. That sucksssssssssssss. That beat sounds like some classic 90's Wu-Tang. Would've been dope to hear Jay and Ghost on that same beat together. Ugh.
