if you like hearing overproduced slick symphonic rock, then listen to the later flip albums. if you like hearing terrible guitar riffs and stupid singing listen to the flips early albums.
sonic life!!!!!!!!!!!

the bigger the live show the more insiginificant the music.
the more "show" you have to put on the more you are covering for boring songs. Fugazi will out rock the flips on a BAD day, with no stage lights, and no smoke and no effects. sonic youth will out rock the flips with a one hour version of diamond sea. shellac sounds the same live as on album BECAUSE they record LIVE, all three at once, no overdubs, no studio trickery, just quality mikes set up properly. That is as it should be.

agreed. General Jones: Years ago, you served the Flaming Lips in the Clouds Taste Metallic; now I beg you to help them in their struggle against the Axis of Weevil. I regret that I am unable to present my request to you in person; but my ship has fallen under attack and I'm afraid my mission to woodGate has failed. I've placed information vital to the survival of the band into the memory systems of this R2 unit. Wayne will know how to retrieve it. You must see this droid safely delivered to him on woodGate. This is our most desperate hour. Help me, Ronald-Wan Kenobi-Jones; you're my only hope. Love, Floatingslowly Princess of Alderaan |

and it is NOT funny to ridicule mentally retarted people. Why make fun of someone who had no choice in how they are? They did not choose to be mentally retarted. They did not choose down's syndrome or any of the myriad other birth defects that cause mental retardation.
But it IS funny to make fun of Flaming Lips fans.

Well, you're not too bright. Logic certainly has no effect.
What's wrong with "compare/contrast?" What all this "Vs. Sonic Youth" bull? You think you can get away with it without anyone saying anything just because you included a third poll option? |

Here's my hypothetical multiple choice scenario of The Flaming Lips response if I were conducting an imaginary interview with them.
(the Lead-in) I think you guys are the greatest. For instance, I think you're better than Sonic Youth both live and on record. What do you think? (the response) a) Wha? b) Well, I think that both us and Sonic Youth blah blah blah c) No way! d) spontaneous laughter e) some combination of the above |

I was wondering when some chivalrous admonishment was coming from some screwball.
One cannot "have a discussion" when the topic statement "The Flaming Lips Vs. Sonic Youth" begs the question. What you've presented is fodder for diatribe, not discussion. |

It takes some nerve to call a certifiable genius a "retard" and screw-up the tense of a verb while doing so. edit: tense...nouns have cases...nobody had to tell me |

"The Flaming Lips Vs. Sonic Youth"
It also takes some nerve to start this thread at the official Sonic Youth message board and expect a "discussion." Then, it takes some nerve to try and make someone out to be the enemy that calls you on it. Finally, it takes some nerve to ignore the helpful suggestion that this topic would be fine for www.rateyourmusic.com, but not here phased that way. I also proffered another suggestion that the topic would be better served if it were phrased as a yin "compare & contrast" rather than the yang "Vs." I remind you of the score. What's it up to now? It's 47-to-1 currently. |

I have that happen to me all the time!!! it's pandemic. surely you know this by now! any band put into a "Vs. Sonic Youth" position on this board is going to get the same treatment by Sonic Youth Heads. despite the "controversive" wording of the topic, all it boils down to is Ms. Skull loving the Lips. although the types of replies should have been expected by her, it's really no reason for the masses to bash away! NEXT TOPIC: Wayne Vs. Thurston in a fist fight. I choose Wayne. he's punchy. |
