You know I remember hearing that there were quite a few bands out there that sorta took the surf thing and went a bit further into spaghetti western type stuff, anybody know anything about that? atsonicpark?

Hmm not really. The only surf band I can think of to stylistically branch out a LOT is Mermen (and Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, actually, but they never wanted to be known as surf..) who had some spaghetti western type stuff and also some psychadelic stuff thrown in as well. I'll have to look into this ..
