I bet they won't use The Eternal as a title.
Even if it is ironic, most people will not get it and will make fun out of it. Anyway, it is better than Street Sauce. |

The Eternal Sonic Youth of course. From now on their albums must be named with reference to their longevity. Their 2011 record will be named "The Prolific" and in 2013 "The Infinity" and in 2015 "The Endless" and in 2032 "The Geriatric" |

it's not very important how the title sounds to fans, and S.Y don't really care about that, cause the title is always a personal choice with a secret meaning.
they don't make music with the intention of "cool titles", and you don't listen music just because it has or not cool titles. Anyway in these days i think it's time to S.Y have an album called: NOISE UP YR ASS! |

The Eternal reminds me of The Fountain from Aranofsky.
I like the title and i'm pretty sure the album will turn out great. John Agnello did a great job on rather Ripped and another great job on TOTA. The only thing I didn't really like was Slow Revolution. I hope another version won't end up on the new record. |

Uh, while not a particularly spectacular album name, 'The Eternal' is pretty much on the same plane as all of the others. I mean, since when has Sonic Youth had notably good album names?
'Confusion is Sex,' 'Bad Moon Rising,' 'Evol', 'Sister,' 'Dirty,' 'Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star,' 'Washing Machine,' 'Murray Street,' 'Sonic Nurse,' and 'Rather Ripped' are all equally mediocre album titles, some a little better, although most worse. 'The Eternal' would acually be their best album title in almost ten years. The only album titles that I like are 'Kill Yr Idols' (not an album), 'Daydream Nation,' 'Goo,' 'A Thousand Leaves,' and ' NYC Ghosts & Flowers.' And 'Goo' I only like because I interpret it more as a character name (a proper noun) than as a regular noun. Outside of the music, I'm more interested in what the cover will be. They have a much better track record with cover art. I wasn't so happy with the 'Rather Ripped' artwork (although the black and white LP version looked much better.)

SONIC LIFE ETERNAL
Remember how they said they were gonna call Rather Ripped SONIC LIFE? That shit would have been sweet. I think they said that to make fun of me SONIC LIFE!

Man you guys are fussy
"Rather Ripped isn't noisy enough, wahhhhh!" "Sonic Youth signed to Matador, now they're going to really suck now, I hate Matador, wahhhhhh!" "Sonic Youth's new album is getting named the Eternal. That name sucks, therefor the music's going to suck. Wahhhhhh, I want my Mommy!" |
