I was totally under the impression that we were in the midst of the greatest economic expansion in the history of civilization, with plentiful opportunities for all. I myself turned down seventeen job offers just yesterday, and I have almost no marketable skills.

I think the thing is that very few people would disagree that, in these difficult times, having a job, of any sort, is generally beneficial.
