Booked my Residents ticket today. (plus my second Primal Scream show, but we'll brush that one under the mat for now) Scared. Real scared.

I saw them a few years back in London, and they were superb.

Thursaday, September 4
PONYTAIL COWTOWN INDICA RITUAL GENTLE FRIENDLY Thursday 4 September Barden's Boudoir (38-44 Stoke Newington Road, Dalston, N16 7XJ) 8:00 | £6 | http://www.wegottickets.com/event/32309 PONYTAIL is a quartet hailing from Baltimore. Created in January 2005 - strangers brought together and chosen at random by a local poet - they began their relationship as infants and their first years were musically chaotic, feeding on exhaustion and borderlining on retardation, yet ultimately relating to pop. Refining a sound that crosses the standard rock band aesthetic with the world of new age, ska, Afropop and concrete poetry, the four released their first full-length 'Kamehameha' on Creative Capitalism in 2006. Their sopohmore effort 'Ice Cream Spiritual' is hot of the press courtesy of label du jour, We Are Free, and sees the band's duelling guitars and Molly Siegel's shamanic vocal limbered into some of their most boisterous pop-punk jams to date. www.myspace.com/jreamteam | www.nowwearefree.com COWTOWN play short, hi-octane, thrill pop - a brash, sleazy keyboard / drums / guitar trio, squawking out the most catchily yelped bubblegum noise west of Yorkshire. Their first album 'Pinecone Express' is out now on Chinchilla-Tone and follows two 7" via Golden Lab and On The Bone Records. www.myspace.com/cowtownsuperstars INDICA RITUAL is five super-slick dudes from Liverpool who play awesome pop songs, dead fast and in technicolour. Add prog-rock party fun, the skronk of Devo, undulating guitar and synth riffs, and the result will make your feet move and your brain itch. Equally at home throwing out motorik shapes at Italian techno nights, or shakin' alongside the noisiest avant rock acts, they've shared stages with everyone from Dirty Projectors to Hadouken of late! www.myspace.com/indicaritual GENTLE FRIENDLY is a duo from London, whose music resembles the mighty gallop of the fabled Scandinavian Wild Hunt - hurling itself forward across woods crystallised with snow, not to terrorise and maim the pale peasants staring wide-eyed from the side of the road, but searching for a gleaming reservoir of power which lies hidden in the depths of the wilderness. With a pop glint in their eye that would have made the Unicorns or Yo la Tengo proud, they grab you in the slipstream of their exalted assault, accelerating towards a place you might have visited before by the hand of like-minded explorers such as Animal Collective, Silver Apples or Dan Deacon. www.myspace.com/gentlefriendly |

London Musicians' Collective's 16th Annual Festival of Experimental Music
Thursday November 29th | Friday November 30th | Saturday December 1st Cochrane Theatre, Southampton Row, Holborn, London WC1B 4AP "International in its sweep, uncompromising in its substance" - Time Out Two dozen performers from around the world are given free reign to redefine music. Over three days they coax incredible sounds from all manner of instrument, in every conceivable manner. Performers include the elder statesman of Japanese sound-art Yasunao Tone; mesmeric minimalist legend Charlemagne Palestine; and Norbert Möslang, enigmatic torturer of household electrical goods. Group improvisations, drawing on diverse talents thrown in at the deep end of spontaneity, feature Tony Buck, superlative drummer of Australia's best export, The Necks; brilliant Belgian string virtuoso Julia Eckhardt; and sensational American trumpeter Peter Evans. And to surprise ourselves, some players at the very edge of audio arts: Taku Sugimoto, whose guitar playing is so restrained as to stretch the laws of time; Bob Levene, who uses turntables as audio sculpture; and Helena Gough, who reveals the laptop as a landscape teeming with twittering life. Take an example from Eve and Experiment. Thursday 29 November: Yasunao Tone + Taku Sugimoto + Bob Levene + Angharad Davies & Julia Eckhardt & Michael Duch Friday 30 November: Charlemagne Palestine + Norbert Möslang + Robin Hayward & Matt Davis + Billy Roisz & Angélica Castelló Saturday 1 December: Peter Evans & Steve Beresford & Mark Sanders + John Butcher & Tony Buck & Burkhard Stangl + Margarida Garcia & Barry Weisblat + Helena Gough |

I wouldn't take it for granted that that's Kevin Shields the man, if I were you. I suspect it may be Kevin Shields the band. |
