I'll be going to mass tomorrow with my parents.
I'll bring my Jews #1 foam finger. And actually speaking from my own faith as a non-practicing Catholic, I find it easier to appreciate a Jewish approach to faith than say a protestant. If I wasn't so metaphysically skeptical, I could imagine myself converting. |

Christian socialists evidently need to read The Selfish Gene.

Over my Catholic childhood, I believe I was taught that it wasn't the Jews who killed Jesus as a people but that mankind as a whole (through the chosen people) condemned him. Admittedly my upbringing was a more liberal Catholicism but the crucifixion of Jesus took on the role of the original sin instead of the Fall of Man.

I wouldn't call Nazis Christians. I see more in common with Occultism, Paganism, and Gnosticism in their. I think it's a stretch to say that theologically Christianity hates all other religions, because the base text doesn't inherently harbor any hatred to other religions. |

Someone who upset the order the way he did was destined to be put to death eventually in those times. If not Judas, someone else. |

Ok, whatever. Hitler was David Copperfield and the bible hasn't changed crafty hands over the centuries, re-adjusting itself to whatever a moment in history called out for. Can't be bothered with this sort of chat. Did you learn that in school, by any chance? |

for certain gnostic sects (persecuted and exterminated), judas was the real hero of the gospels for the reasons you hint at. by playing his part in the crucifixion melodrama, he sacrificed himself and allowed jeebus to do his job. jeebus had nothing to lose, mind you, as he was the son of god and he knew he'd resurrect. judas on the other hand was a mere human tasked with killling a god and going to hell for it in order to save humanity. ballz of steel i say. Jebus was the name of Jerusalem before it was captured by King David, Jesus is the anglicized pronunciation of "Ieyesus", the greek pronunciation of the Hebrew "Ieyehoshua"...
now that we have all that out of the way. Quote:
interesting thing about Judas, I have always thought of him not as a betrayer, though the text does say he was a cheat and a thief of the coffer, but aside from that, I feel that Judas truly believed in Jesus as the messiah. The apostles were an anti-roman, maccabean revival, and while Jesus himself was not directly opposed to any particular world government at the time, his followers surely were a bunch of rebels and revolutionaries, awaiting the opportunity to strike against Rome and liberate palestine. For Judas, IF he believed that Jesus was the Messiah, that he was God Incarnate, and in particular, believed in the Resurrection, which Christ and the essenes promoted unceasingly, than he was never killing Jesus at all. I personally think that Judas' crime was impatience, he thought that if he sold out Jesus, than it would spark the Revolution. I believe that Judas never believed that Jesus would be crucified at all, but rathet thought that the altercation in the Garden would spark off the revolution. Perhaps he thought that the confrontation would force Jesus' hand, and bring about the radical change that they all desired. and, after he realized that it was not, and that Jesus was crucified, and the revolution was coming later, he killed himself in dispair and desperation. At the very least, the text makes it clear that Satan had entered into Judas, AFTER eating the piece of bread cursed by Jesus. An interesting opposite to the concept of the Eucharist, which is a blessed piece of bread which allows the Holy Spirit to enter the body of the person after eating, and with Judas, Satan only enters Judas after eating the bread from Christ's hand. I'd say he is much off the hook either way
