drugs invite stupidity. and conservatives are fundamentally stupid. but what do you mean by "conservative" here? there is a libertarian/authoritarian axis and a free market / socialist economy axis here. where are you moving? |

On another note, was it just me that thought that most of the questions weren't really divisive unless you're of a hard-libertarian mindset?

I'm right there with the most of ya. I guess it doesnt surprise me. I'd imagine most SY listeners are open minded and creative which to me equates to Libertarian. I imagine the country music people are more Authoritarian. |

the questions were'nt really good-- i think more emphasis was given to the "strongly agree" vs. "agree" etc. sort of like a thermometer. even if you disagree with the presentation of the questions. for example in the weed legalization question, if you "agree" (as i do), it's considered mild libertarian. whereas if you "strongly agree" (i.e. if you have a weed habit) then you're considered some kind of radical. i mean, im for legalizing it, but fuck if im going to lose life or limb fighting for a pothead cause. does it make me more or less libertarian really, to have a weed habit? |

Yeah, precisely. Questions like the one you've mentioned irritate me because I don't necessarily agree with criminalisation of weed, but I also don't think a lot of people should be smoking it. Ideally, I'd like everyone to be capable of smoking weed without being a prick, but the number of pricks that evangelise weed force me (in the context of that sort of question) further to the right than I rightfully belong. There should be a 'meh' option for the politically apathetic.
EDIT: as there's a high proportion of retarded people on this board, I'll point out that I'm not politically apathetic, but it's important that certain individuals be able to not care about certain issues. Given the average age of this board, there's not that many homeowners/ familied sorts, so there's naturally a bias on certain financial questions which are largely due to not having a complete set of information.

I actually found the result of my test out of step with how I tend to view myself politically - which is far more authoritarian than libertarian. Unfortunately, as has been pointed out, unless you're some kind of NRA supporting fox botherer, you're going to come across as your typical Naomi Klein reading Gandhi-ite simply because of the questions being asked. I mean who would honestly say that they thought multi-national corporations had no social obligations? Equally, to say that they do doesn't suddenly turn you into Michael Moore.

i thought that had more to do with the free market vs. socialism economic model in the "left/right" axis, not libertarian/authoritarian that's more aimed at social issues (in this test anyway). so it's flawed labeling as well, but that's another story... of course we all want globalization to benefit "humanity", but there's no room for consideration that maybe the progress of business and commerce actually benefits humanity. so it's a very narrow-minded approach to whatever issues they're trying to present before you. |
