gonna give England's Hidden Reverse a go,i'd say The Damned - Light At The End Of The Tunnel, although it's going for about 40quid on amazon at the mo,it's got Captain Sensible's diary from their US tour with Bad Brains as support, also them getting kicked off the Pistols tour of the UK,using Elvis Costello as an ashtray, etc.and also the Crass biog @ Omnibus Books.

me - the Crass biog is good, although I have to admit to finding Penny Rimbaud irritating at times. Again, check out "England's Hidden Reverse" - a seriously great read all round.

I find with most band bios that the first half is usually great (and quite inspirational) as they recount their early struggles but then, in the final half, as success is achieved, they all just become the same story. Once bands reach a certain level of fame they all begin to merge. Another spell in rehab, ego conflicts, failed marriages, celebrity friends, etc, etc.
Thinking about it, SY are one of the few bands I can think of whose rise to glory hasn't followed this seemingly inevitable path. |

demonrail - you've just reminded me, not a biog per se, but Julian Cope's"Krautrocksampler" is a great bio on some of the Kraut bands, especially the Cosmic Jokers/Timothy Leary connection - excellent stuuf all round.
PS to dr666 - I heard the Runaways for the first time ever tonight before I went to see "Mamma Mia" - fuck, they're good. I mean, REALLY good.
