Eh? Mayo Thompson and the Red Krayola are pretty damn well-known, my friend. I'd venture to say they're AT LEAST as well-known as Half Japanese is. Red Krayola's been around forever. And "Corky's Debt to His Father" is rightly considered a classic by many people. I saw it mentioned ALL THE TIME on various websites/zines and checked it out -- it's really good. They're more well-known amongst people that aren't only into Sonic Youth and stuff, at least.
Not trying to create an argument, but you kind of give an impression that Mayo and Red Krayola deserve more attention, which .. I mean .. they've been around for 40 years, they've worked with tons of "prolific" artists (O'Rourke, David Grubbs, Tortoise, even John Fahey), I'd say they're pretty prolific... |

Only on one occaision have I met anyone that was aware of Red Krayola. Even then, that person was only aware of Parable and wasn't aware of anything he had done afterwards. I'm not denying Mayo Thompson isn't prolific, he's done a ton of shit and he gets proper recognition in the more esoteric circles.
Half Japanese has a documentary made about them. I encounter faaaaaaaar more people aware of Half Japanese than one might think. When I meet someone who knows a little something about indie rock, the name Half Japanese isn't totally foriegn. Beyond that, I think that the Red Krayola has produced some of the most interesting music of the past twenty-five years... more people need to dig it. |

Right.. yeah... I'm just saying, they're both fairly well-known, just amongst different circles of people. But I get what you're saying: They should be even more popular.. and you don't like Half Japanese...
