in 1984, astronaut Bruce McCandless II was further out than anyone had ever been before. He was about 100 meters from the shuttle's cargo bay. I WANT TO GO DAMNIT

I'll be honest, If I went into space and it wasn't like 2001: A Space Oddyssey, I'd probably be dissappointed.

I had the big Space Shuttle NASA poster (the original one that folded-out). Also, I used to have a bunch of NASA color placards that had relevant info on the reverse. |

yeah charles. they have been doing a large scale map of the visible universe, to find out about the spread of matter in the universe and they found a gigantic (by our standards) area of space where there is noting, no intergalactic dust, no stars, not nothing! it was bound to happen but noone expected an area that large!

HA! my dad has that exact mural in the unopened box with cellophane still intact. his favorite album when i was growing up was: it has excerpts of the JFK speech "by the time this decade is out..." and the radio transmissions from the launch, landing and re-entry. he worked for GE Aerospace and Martin Marietta (later Lockheed Martin) building these for the Air Force: ...beat that for space geekery.

Whoa, what's with the space -related threads? a lot of them.
When I was a little kid, astronomy and dinosaurs were the two most coolest things ever. Thus, I still read news regarding the aforementioned. I hope Eta Carinae will exlplode as a massive hypernova during our lifetime. |

It's the Rift! There's a rift out in space, and it could be the door, but you know I'm not sure. If you go through the rift to the palace of ice - might it be nice - is it, paradise. I'm the commander of time in my vessel of God - I go through the rift to the palace of ice. We may never come back from the palace of ice because the rift is a door. |
