anyone looking forward to seeing the new halloween movie?
Lots of prequels appear to be coming out recently, this one looks promising. Hopefully it will be raw and dirty, with lots of information of michael's childhood that will be insightful without humanising him. |

Some things I viddied recently
1. The Squid and The Whale-a great indie film, very real. It's an autobiographical story of the director set in 1980s Brooklyn. A+ 2. The Merchant of Venice (2004 version)-great production, filmed in Venice. Pacino is wonderful as Shylock. A 3. Before Sunset-wonderful romantic film. Great dialogue and everything. A+

The Squid and the Whale is great. The whole plot, the acting, the dialogue, everything is just top notch. It's just very...real, to put it in a simple term.
Jeff Daniels has a great performance as the "washed-up" writer father who just "needs a new agent", and the younger brother is great too. Foul-mouthed, horned-up, and great. Edit:!@#$%!, you must see The Merchant of Venice. it is spot on Shakespeare with only a few lines missing, very very powerful and dramatic without being over the top. Plus, where it was filmed in Venice, the sets are spot on.

My dad and I really like Jeff Daniels. The Squid and the Whale was better than I thought it would be, though I didn't care much for the wishy-washy ending. I mean sometimes when I see movies that are as solid as that one, I wish that the ending didn't feel so misdirected. They were reaching for a great metaphor, and it didn't really work for me. And I am pretty fond of metaphors a lot of the time. But in the case of this movie, I think the ending felt half-assed.
But yeah, I did enjoy seeing how the characters interacted with one another, and comparing it to my own parents' divorce, and seeing all of the similarities. Some parts were a real stretch and kind of overdone, but for the most part I think the movie was a success.
