they wanted to make sure people understood them
such a crime? still love bs & nwa though i just listened last night to the sbd boot from the song remains the same tour from mobile, al & was decimated to quivering goo at one point, plant says to the audience in a hick accent, "what is this guy talking about?...this guy's crazy," as an aside & then goes-back into more standard fare in-between-song banter...such hilarity & Misty Mountain Hop & the No Quarter from this are !!!!!!!! |

Crazy motha' fucka' named ice cube....from a gang called Niggaz with additude God I love that song. But seriously Afterthefact, if you dislike genres, why bring up a topic in relation to genres when you know it will only cause a stupid debate as such? As for me, I'm staying Straight Outta this.

If: SJ= Silver Jews SMJS= Stephen Malkmus PPAM= PPAM then I think SJ>SMJS>PPAM. You gotta love Berman's voice. I can hear a stronger sense of attitude and emotion in his voice in comparison to malkmus, even though I do like Malkmus' voice.

Apparently there is a genre called CoreCore. I'm kind of behind on these sorts of things.

Well, The Hattifatteners invented Moomincore.
As for labelling music... There's nothing wrong with categorizing music as long as it doesn't come down to unavailing wanking and arguing over what's this and what's that band as if it mattered at all (to someone else than those fucking geeks). |

I say why not start a thread on genres? I like seeing people get so defensive about their feelings, cause everytime you have to defend your own feelings, you always end up making yourself more sure of them.

Genres work as adjectives. Whats easier to say, "Its really slow with downtuned guitars and bass playing repeditive riffs with lots of feedback." Or "Sludge/doom/stoner metal".
But I see how genres piss people off, as music like Less Than Jake is considered more punk than Pere Ubu.

Bollocks. It's all music. I listen to all kinds of music. I don't need genres. Why, I even listen to music made by black people! I enjoy all music. All of it. Because I am a fictional person who believes in myself as being able to do the impossible. It's all music, maaaaan. [nb - T&B will probably get the sarcasm where a few here won't]

"emo" is a fashion phase.
I saw a store at a mall the other, which is directed towards young teens who are caught up in the whole emo mess. I imagine it was created by an old retired couple, with nothing better to do with their money but exploit this so-called "music genre" more so and sell it to naive kids who buy into the thought of being a "deepper" individual based on their fashion accessories. |
