Yeah I have all Times New Viking's albums, as well as a few of their 7"s, but i dunno though. I mean yeah, I like them fine, but sometimes they get too out of hand.
I like noise a lot. I like messiness too. But it seems like acts these days such as TNV and Wavves are almsot trying too hard to be messy and "lo-fi." Pavement, the Mountain Goats, and Guided by Voices didn't TRY to sound "lo-fi," its just what they were dealing with. On the other hand, TNV almost soudns like they are trying to hard to sound hissy. Still like them a lot though, and I will continue to buy their records.

^^Yeah I agree.
I think a band should just try to sound on record what they sound like live... wavves sounds badass on record but live they are tame as fuck... I think we sound more tame on record than we do live, so there is still work to be done. |

Well, I don't agree with that. And I don't see anything wrong with trying to sound lo-fi either. If you want your songs to sound messy and hissy and trebly, and the songs work in that format, more power to you. I mean, Wavves is fun stuff on record, precisely because of the way he sculpts his sound on that format. There's no way in hell I'd want to listen to the songs the way he performs them live.

TNV has succeeded in sounding the same live as on record each time I've seen 'em, but it's been well-documented about how Wavves is a major disappointment live. That's quite a surprise that Wavves is touring with Ganglians. If I sucked that bad live, I wouldn't wanna take a really good band with me to kick my ass all over the nation. Maybe now that Zach Hill is drumming for Wavves, it will be different, but I have a hard time imagining how Mr. Wavves is gonna balance Zach's stout and strenuous and artful drumming. Looking forward to TNV coming out west in late October!
